I thought it was a relatively uneventful start to the season, until a week ago, when the salary cap scandal unfolded. I have no issues with the punishment handed down to Melbourne, I’m more concerned that there are other teams breaching the salary cap and getting away with it.

Fortunately for all of you, it’s hardly in the NRL’s best interest to investigate your club the way it should and to impose the same penalties it has on the Storm. Can you imagine what would happen if another team was caught this year and stripped of their right to earn points, effectively making them uncompetitive? Luckily you don’t have to worry about premierships being taken off you, not sure there was a salary cap back in the 80s.
I suspect Storm’s harsh penalty will have a few club CEOs shitting themselves, scrambling to hide all the traces; the secret books and under the table deals. And you can bet that the NRL are giving them as much time as possible to do that. We may never ‘know’ that Parramatta or other teams are rorting the salary cap, I’m pretty sure the NRL are not too keen to find out either. If they do get caught and the same harsh penalties are forced on one team let alone more, we can say goodbye to rugby league for 2010 and good riddance to the future of the game.
Before you all hit me with the one and only line you know “Bulldogs were cheats”. Let’s get this out of the way. Yes they did cheat the salary cap, difference is they got caught, they paid the penalty and every other team should’ve learnt from it. But you are kidding yourselves if you don’t think or at least suspect there are other clubs who are, and have been over the salary cap for years, including Parramatta.
You have $4.1 million to spend on 25 players, including the likes of Hindmarsh, Moimoi, Hayne, Burt, Keating, Tahu, Mataeo, Grothe, Inu for God’s sake even Captain Careless is earning top $$$. If one wasn’t already suspicious, you made a Mortimer your own… aren’t any of you asking where your club is getting the money to pay a second generation dud $250K a year when we all know he hasn’t
proven himself worthy of that amount?
For the sake of rugby league, I hope Parramatta don’t get caught, not yet anyway. Let us finish the season first.
And on that note I’ll be at the game tomorrow night, perhaps at the brewery beforehand, hope to bump into some of you there :)

look at other teams- rabbits-taylor,the englishman,asotasi, sutton, thats big $$ just in a few positions, or dragons in soward, young,hornby,cooper and then afford to buy players like costigan. Or what about the dogs big dollars in kimmorley,stagg,hannant,ennis, morris and they are only the recent purchases.
but yes i agree we signed mortimer for way too much because of his name, the hype, a few good game and we didnt want him to leave.But nobody but the clubs officials and the players know what money is being dished out, so we can only speculate and hope we are near it, so who knows.

I obviously don't have the evidence so I am just speculating, the way you are about Dragons, Souths, Bulldogs etc...
