I essentially posted this already on the Josh Hodgson blog and given it was on about the 19th page of absolute shit and rubbish, I decided to maybe take the discussion into some sense of surrealness.

Retention and Recruitment.

Recruitment officer's are always subjective and the people that have the knack of identifying talent are not on a "for sale parade"....the subjective judgement they have usually is not recognised by administrators. Only wily old foxes that have been around for a while.

It would seem to me that our recruitment is currently excellent....the retention component would seem to be the weakness. I am assuming the "bean counters" come into this and given our recent administration changes, that is not surprising.

Learning by mistakes

Its very important that the Chairman and CEO recognise this fault and learn by the mistakes, you cannot expect them to have the "horse" sense that people like Gould, Ponnissi, Bennett etc posses, but even they may be seeing a "sea change" with the current process of buying everybody they can and then trimming back afterwards.....I believe Mark O'Neill has done an excellent job and keeping a low profile is one of our underlying strengths, I hope some other very smart operator doesn't see this and steal him from under our noses.

Monopoly

I was thinking about the board game "Monopoly" and buying everything  was always the best tactic. I beat my kids at it, when I didn't just let them win i.e. buy everything for sale and dominate the game....what happens is that some people think too hard about it, When the answer is simple. The key difference is making sure you have the money in the bank so you are receiving plenty of rent(sometimes the order of that is not that important). This state of mind and being selective when you dispose of the property is the key determinent. Its only "play money".

So here's to Mayfair and Park Lane and maybe the value of Old Kent Rd.... we have no need to sell any properties at this stage, just observe what the tycoons are doing and see what we learn from them.

Time to rationalise and reset

A lot of people on here need to take a few deep breath's and understand that we are in much better hands than we have been before and whilst mistakes will happen, you usually have to make a few before you learn anything.

PS Forget the 36 years wait bullshit, this club reincarnated in 2014, lets give it a chance to live a life of its own.

  • Daily Telegraph article today : "five Rookies to watch at every NRL Club"
    Here's the Parramatta ones :
    Eels
Sean Russell: Still only 19 with two NRL games in the bag. But Maika Sivo’s ACL injury (Sivo is expected to miss up to 15 rounds) has opened the door for Russell to get plenty more at the start of 2022. Keeps growing and that taste of top grade is said to have really stoked the fire in him.
Sam Loizou: Came through playing in the halves alongside Jake Arthur but will end up in the centres. Was fairly slight when he came into pre-season last year but is starting to get his body right. Has played one first grade game off the bench in that late season belting by Penrith when Brad Arthur rested a stack of players. But this 18-year-old is very athletic and has the skills to make a very good career when he gets a bit more experience.
David Hollis: A bit of an old-school prop from Wauchope on the mid-north coast who has done an apprenticeship as a diesel mechanic but is now not far away from getting a shot in the engine room in NRL. Only 21 next year but they’ve had raps on Hollis at Parra for a while now, and all you continue to hear is good things.
Jock Brazel: A backrower from Moree who made the Australian Schoolboys and has been locked into a three-year deal. Given he’s only just turned 18 and the Eels have some strong competition in the back row, you’d expect he has some hard yards to do before he’s ready to challenge for an NRL spot. But club recruitment boss Ben Rogers says Brazel is a name Parra fans might want to keep a close eye on.
Solomone Naiduki: Powerful Fijian winger who the Eels have a high opinion of. At 21 has now moved into the top-30 squad and could get some early chances with Maika Sivo’s injury.

  • Ray Stone has signed with the Dolphins from 2023.

    • Not surprising, he will be a good signing for them......shame is this could have been a breakout year at parra for him.

He is a good example of you can't keep them all.

      • Personally I think he is just holding someone else back. He  gas done a decent job when required but I don't see him getting any better than he has already shown, time for someone else to get a shot.

  • Poppa, great post.

Rather tame for you lol! I think it addresses the issues in a balanced and fair way.

I wait with baited breath to see how both the extreme haters and lovers respond.

    • Baited breath could be a problem on this site Elvis, there's too many people around ready to "hook" you LOL

  • makes sense to me, but then i am an optimist and not a pessimist.....something that is not allowed or frowned upon here.

    • Things make sense to you Rocky because your smarter than most.

      • thanks pops, wouldn't say i am smarter than most, lets be fair....but there are a few where i think i sit higher up that totem pole than they do ...its not that hard to work out who they are, though i suspect they wouldnt realise it.

"It's actually crazy how badly our defence has fallen off a cliff. For the years prior we started to really grow a defensive steel, but it's all shot to pieces now.
Defence wins comps, we have gone badly backwards in defence. We need a change now."
