Mitchell to Fullback?

Thoughts on Mitchell Moses playing fullback if we had a decent half to fill his shoes?

He’s got a hell of a running game which we’d see more of, his kicking game is good for a fullback, also think he’d have more courage in defense and kick returns then what we’ve seen, not to mention he’d be happy to bark orders at the defensive line which every good fullback needs to do. He could be a gun fullback with an off season and some game time.

Now this obviously leaves a gap in the halves, but with Norman gone Id be looking to move on French and Gutho and spend some money on a decent veteran half who could guide the youngsters like Brown and Salmon.

      • Settle Pops, if you dont agree thats fine, but don’t start attacking members for a difference of opinion.

I was referring to Moses being more solid in defence vs what we’ve seen from French. Moses is a talent, we need to find a position for him in my opinion. French may be more powerful than Moses, but tell me French didnt shirk his kick returns and wasnt caught out of position at the back. And by the way, thats my observation not some commentators.

I genuinely hope Guth will be back too, great work ethic. and great attitude. Only time will tell, but the odds are against him. If we’re going to build into a top team we need to stop playing the long odd and praying they come good.

  • His first six games were all at fullback, actually.

No doubt he could play the position but his strength is the fact that he has options and that's better suited to the halves.

As for moving on Gutho, no. We need to build the club around guys like Gutherson - who are competitive, hard-workers and have talent to boot. Gutherson is really our "template" player.

  • Victor are you on ice

    Move on Gutherson hahaha

I hope you are to say something like that

  • Moses won't be here in 2020.

  • As Phil Gould would say "No, No, No, No".

    • no thank you plus as said on here many times .including you Al if he is moved to 5/8 he will go okay .were did he play his best footy at the tigers 5/8 were did he play for Lebinon in the world cup 5/8 with Farrer at 1/2

  • The issue is as always is the aerobic fitness required to play Fullback, it’s on another level to any other position on the field.

    • Fair point Brett, guys like Billy slater certainly set the mould for ultra fitness at the back, although Hayne’s never been known for his fitness and played awesome before heading off to the NFL

      • Hayne's lack of support play hurt our team, even when he was awesome with the ball in hand. He played more like a roaming winger than a true fullback. The support play was inconsistent compared to genuine fullbacks. That makes it harder to overload defenders, and provides fewer passing options to team mates.

          • I think Gutherson's support play is great. I very much consider him a traditional fullback.
