MITCHELL PEARCE

I read an article today re Mitchell Pearce's response to a comment by Ricky Stuart that he should be the next NSW captain. In it Brian Smith makes the following comment about Mitchell Pearce:

Smith, who said he had tried to lure Pearce to Parramatta as ayoungster,
reiterated the view that the youngster probably needs tosteer the Roosters through a finals series before he is even handed theblue number seven jersey again.

Just wanted to put it out there to see what people think about Pearce and how he would fit into the current Parra team

  • He is a damn good half, Brian Smith is a good judgement of talent.

Pearce would be wonderful in an Eels jersey, and i think he would make a good captain, he is a leader
  • If we could get him it would be great, can't see him leaving the Roosters though.

I think once our half's combo is sorted and workout the kinks we will be more than ok without him though. It is going to take a couple of rounds for our team to get back to there fluid and relentless attacking flair of last season.
  • Parra can't have everyone. Let's just focus on the current halves and another thing, I can't stand Brian Smith.....sure he turned Parramatta around in '97, but I don't think he is a great coach......but that's another story.
  • Heh, wasn't it Brian Smith that said mateo wouldn't make it in first grade. So he's not always the best judge of talent.
    • Brian didn't mean that talent wise, his arguement was that Feleti was lazy, that's why he sent him to London Broncos in 2005 on loan.
  • Are we serious ? we're talking about Pearce coming to the eels, do contracts not exist anymore ? he's willing to come to parra because brian smith, his current coach, tried to lure him there as a youngster ?
  • thats what i meant, years ago, not currently, roosters wont let him go... we have mortimer anyway.

It would have been nice had we lured him a few years ago.
  • No chance, signed a long deal at beginning of last year with Easts.
  • this isn't a rumour guys, just a question.

I think Pearce would make a great addition to our squad.

Also Brian Smith had a great impact when he coached newcastle but then it fell apart, the roosteres form will die down around orgin time . I gaurantee it.

"I could easily see him popping up at Canterbury , Newcastle , wests or Souths ( should they miss out on Wayneo) . I think Wests could benefit from him as head coach big time. "

"Blake was good in 2019 as he only joined mid season that year. From 2020 he was horrible. He did have a decent end to the season when we got knocked out my Penrith in the finals in a close game, but that's about it. "
