Michael Clarke - the mark of a man.

Firstly I have no intention of over exaggerating Clarke's obvious grief. We have all faced the loss of someone near and dear to us and had to summon the courage to move on. However, I am full of admiration for the role that Clarke has had to play in the past week.Michael Clarke has been the face of the Hughes family, addressing the media on their behalf. Michael Clarke has been the face of the Australian cricket team, addressing the media on their behalf. Michael Clarke was the close mate keeping the hospital vigil alongside the family of Phillip Hughes. In all circumstances Clarke has conducted himself with great dignity. We can feel proud to have a man of his personal calibre as a leader of one of our national teams.Again, to put things in perspective, we have all grieved someone close to us. But how would we deal with fronting the media for millions to see at a time when our own emotions would be almost overwhelming.Well done Michael Clarke. You have taken my level of respect for you to a whole new level.

  • well said. I was moved by his speech and by the funeral as well.RIP Hughie!

  • Totally agree. %100 class act. He has had the toughest job over the last week of any Australian captain ever. Great leadership!
  • Sorry 60's but I am over the Phil Hughes Circus.

I am not detracting in any way from his loss of life

    HOW FUCKING EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    http://forums.leagueunlimited.com/archive/index.php/t-441695.html

This happened 2 days after Hughes got hit.

And what about Lizzie Watkins playing hockey for WA in 2012 who also got killed after being hit in the head from a ball.

We have heard NOTHING about these incidents.

NO headlines - NO scumbag politician delivering a eulogy in parliament - NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then what happens when an Aussie service person gets killed overseas.

24 hours of "soul searching" and grief, then we move on to what some dipstick did running a red light or something equally mundane.

The manner in which this entire affair has been handled has turned into the highest form of DISRESPECT for Hughes and others who have been killed while playing sport.

    • Totally agree.

When I found out the funeral was LIVE on TV that was just ridiculous.

    • The point I was trying to make in this blog was how Clarke has dealt with all of the attention. It has been full of character. We now move on.

  • I went to funeral and stood out on the sports oval in the hot hot sun outside the indoor stadium.
What was the TV coverage like? Did they milk if for everything they could like they have been the last few days?
I feel for the family of which I know some of, the way this has played out in the media would have been soul destroying.
    • I thought the TV coverage was very respectful. There was a little commentary before from Michael Slater, Mark Taylor and Michael Hussey. But they simply showed the ceremony after that. There were no ad breaks either which meant they didn't sell it off.

      • Good to hear. I heard a few locals before fearing it would be a bit of circus, but it wasn't it was quite good and plenty of respect shown to all.
    • I did not watch the TV coverage. Im not into celebrity stuff and I don't know the guy so its none of my business. To be honest I wouldn't even know who he was if he walked past me on the street or even spoke to me.

"Pezet had 3 runs, 5 kicks, 2 errors, and 3 try assists. Let's be frank, two of his try assists were fluke kick/regather efforts by others and his try a fluke kick/regather by himself. Ryles played possum about what he has to work on in the press…"
