Sir Col

Hi mate, so I contacted Jim Sarantinos at the club who is aware Col has passed. I floated the idea of organising something for Col at our next home game and he seems open to it. Would you be in a position to ask the family if they would like something done for him on game day? Not sure what it could be yet. Might just be a mention over the PA or something on the big screen before kick off.

Jim also asked to pass on his and the club's condolences to the family.

Sir Col

Thanks Elliott,

I have left a message with Adrianna encompassing your last message and thanking Jim Saratinos for his kind thoughts and the clubs willingness to do something.

I have also communicated to her that realistically either of the things mentioned would be great with probably something on the big screen a preference.

On a personal note I will put your message to me to the "sadness" blog as it demonstrates to our members yours and the clubs efforts in this arena.

I think this is important because realism says you can do no more than you have.

The memorial for Sir Col will be at the Belvedere Hotel, Woody Point, Qld..... Woody Point is in the Northern end of Moreton Bay, on the Brisbane side of Redcliffe, my guess is a 35 minute trip from Brisbane Airport. It is scheduled for 2pm on Tuesday 8th June and is open to family and friends.

I will be attending and speaking  as a friend of  Sir Col's and an informal representative of the one eyed eel. There is a Parramatta Table (its not a sit down to my understanding). The Parramatta table will be more a display of his Parra Memorabilia , both personally and sent by our members through this time.

As I write this I am thinking that if you would like to do a very simple couple of Paragraphs as the CEO of the One Eyed Eels which explains what Sir Col represented to our site. I will duly embellish all this in what I say.... but to actually read it as a message from someone important, you might add your convo with Jim Saratinos it will maybe an "eyes up" into to just what he meant to us.....and the Parramatta District Football Club and not just a message by me, a mate on a football supporters site.

I also think I will publish all this transcript that I'm writing now to give ownership to all the members so they may all feel part of the celebration of Colin Hewitt's life or as we know  Sir Col the Mushroom.

Regards David (Poppa)

PS Any of our members that have specific stories or anecdotes they would like to tell, please do so on this Blog and I will endeavour to read some of the highlights if appropriate at the time.

  • I joined this site quite a few years ago now but I still remember Col's first interaction with me when he replied to a post I had made, he said;

"Welcome young fella. What you have just posted there is an oxymoron. I think you might be an oxymoron as well, minus the oxy".

Classic Col ! His post was obviously embellished with a heap of words in upper case and a stack of exclaimation marks but I can't recall exactly where he used them so I have left them out :))

    • Ha Ha! I think I can use that and I love the part of leaving out the "oxy".... my first contact was that time he had to wear the egg on his face for a whole orf seezun.....my initial thoughts were what sort of a dickhead would wear egg on his face......I have been wearing it ever since Lol

    • Hahaha !  Why does that not shock me from Col.  I too have been trying to find some early exchanges but they seem to have been lost in cyber space over the years .  Thank you Krames as that's pretty much summing up the one liners I was trying to hunt down .  I can rest easy now you've highlighted the dry wit I will remember Noddy for .

That and the beautiful boat old he restored ( was more of a ship tbh ) .  I can't remember if he ever finished it . Poppa did he ever mention it to you ? There was a photo of it on here years ago but I've searched for days and can't find it .

      • No but he was very involved with Air Sea Rescue plus he had a strong engineering background, so it wouldn't surprise me.

  • My enduring memory of Col will be as the "ORF SEEZUN" expert, and as the champion of "NEXT YEAR *sigh*". He was sharp as a tack, and didn't suffer fools easily. This place will be all the poorer due to his loss, but it is so much richer for having had him here.

    • Yes the ORF SEEZUN will go in and the champion next year *sigh*  with it!

      • To me , as one of few ladies knocking around with you fellas he was like a protective dad or grandpa - always quick witted and cheeky but respectful and welcoming . I agree with meelk the orf seezun won't be the same without a malady or two

and thank the lord the club is doing something 👍👏🏻👏🏻

        • I knew you would be impressed and the fact he was protective is born out by his having 3 daughters no doubt.

PS Not that you ever needed protection Carl's, god help the boy/man that has saved being torn a new one by not meeting you in a dark alley lol.

          • Too true lol

  • A great send off for the silly old bastard at Woody Point this afternoon.

    plenty of family and friends.

I really appreciated the family giving us the opportunity to come along, have a drink in his honour while listening to glowing praises of Sir Cols life. I esp appreciated one mate telling people not to forget Col had a great life full of mischief.

a great way to celebrate life instead of remembering their death.
