MEMBERSHIP THOUGHTS A YR ON

About a yr ago I wrote a controversial blog 'if you're not a member,  you're a slack ass.' What I got out of that blog was that, if not living in Sydney it wasn't worth it. Alot because of the way the team was performing and the way our office was run. How things change in a yr or two. Now we are on track to be the superpower we should be, have any opinions changed? Is it worth being member now?

Where you at Col? Lol

  • 3320960613?profile=originalI think a member should be a member through all types of weather. We shouldn’t be fair weather supporters.

    • I think a member should always be a member
  • I thought about membership a few times but fact is it is not worth it for everyone. I would love to attend every home and away game if I could. But the amount of times I have to work or have other commitments when parra play would mean I wouldn't get value for membership that includes attendances to games.
I also understand people not joining if have family cause it not feasible take kids to footy game on Friday or Saturday nights when drunk idiots are out and they won't get kids home till late. Also add not everyone has easy access to babysitters which even if they do add further $$$ to expensive night out even if have ticket membership with cost of food, drinks and getting to and from stadium..
I could join non ticketed membership but then I would be doing it so parra can say we have more members then other clubs which means little, other then bragging rights over other clubs in membership race.
I support the club when I can by attending games when available and I would prefer buy merchandise which I choose instead of membership pack chosen for me.
    • Being a member is a show of support for your club and a small donation to their revenue. I am a pensioner and I buy 2 season tickets each year. One for me and one for my wife or a friend.

It is easy to come up with reasons not to contribute but if you are an Eels fan at least get a non ticketed membership. At least that way you can purchase tickets at discount when you decide that you do want to go.

    • JE , I support the club by spending hundreds of dollars on merchandise and also bidding and buying some charity articles they sell every year.
My point is I'm not a slack ass as parra4life stated in blog. I do however like to get value when I spend money so won't throw money at something just to show my support if I don't get value in return. Everyone has different reasons for not buying membership and they don't include team performance or how the club is run.
As for being a pensioner and having season tickets well done. The fact is some pensioners have more disposable income then working couples paying off bills or trying to save for a house. If my circumstances change I may buy a membership but it would be stupid financial decision to do so at moment and I don't like to be told I am less of a supporter then others due to that fact.
    • Well said mate, im not judging anyone just getting an idea of our great supporters here feelings towards membership. I not complaining about the cost I ll pay, however I feel they could offer better packages. Especially for longtime members yr in yr out

  • I'm just on the basic membership. I get a useless mug, a key ring, a hat, a sticker, my membership card holder, invitation to the Eels functions, discount at the Eels store & first choice at tickets. We use to get a scarf & bag but that's no longer available in this package. But it's nice to support them if you can afford it.
    • I got the scarf as part of my season ticket and my partner got the mug and cap when she got the basic membership. She didn't mind the membership pack for only $50 a year. She doesn't go to a lot of games so we figured the basic membership was best value for her as we still got discount tickets and we could upgrade her to a full season ticket if she wanted one.

    • Same, ok so you got the scarf with a higher package. I always get the same, suddenly I wasn't given one. All good, I might make 3-4 games a year as I don't live in Sydney. And when I do go I usually go with others so no use getting a season ticket.
