Membership Fees being charged

Is it just me or does nay1 else feel that its not right to be charged the monthly fee?

I have two memebrships totalling $1100. I have already been charged 6/10 monthly payments for one game only.

Its not fair that I can have my money back or stop payments. I know the club is doing it tough but at leaset ask - or stop future payments - or deduct 50% - or something? send merchandise?

player call to say thanks? anything?

  • My guess is they are waiting to see how many more games, if any,  can be played in front of crowds before deciding what they are going to do in regards to refunds etc.

I wont be surprised if they offer a discount on next seasons tickets but whack the prices up to cover most of the discount.

  • I didn't buy a membership prior to the season. I bought mine 2 weeks ago after the close down/postponement of the season to support the club. Mind you it was only the $50 option. It's all I can afford at the moment. If I'd spent $1100 like your good self I'd contact the membership team and ask what you said above about stopping payments etc.

  • With their usual revenue now reduced significantly, they now need our support more than ever. If you can afford it then let it go, otherwise call the club to cancel your memberships.

  • I’m happy to wear the cost this year, it’s a tough time on everyone. Let’s hope the comp starts soon, it would help a lot of people to have the NRL back.

    • We pay over 1100 and my son helps me out with his share for him and the grand kids as I am a pensioner.we are happy to pay ours and support the club in these tough times.but in saying that .each to their own

      • Mate everyone different.

  • My thought is the club should roll this year's ticketed members over into next season if we don't get any more games, but that's just my thoughts.

We have a silver family ticket that's approx $1000  per year, direct debited monthly. I work in an essential service so I'm quite lucky that the extra money wouldn't really affect me if it was never seen again.

I guess its more the principle of paying for a service that cannot be delivered at all. There are plenty of industries doing it tough at the moment. My local gym has stopped taking my weekly payment as they can't deliver the service at this time. How is that any different to NRL clubs, they plan on reopening when allowed and they will resumes charging from that point?

I agree that payments probably shouldn't be deducted any further until there is a clear understanding of how the remainder of the season looks from a spectator perspective. Or some sort of indication that there are other forms of reimbursement being looked at, whether its discounted membership next year or spread over the next three years, or money back this year. At least some sort of notice from the club that things are being considered.

  • For sure all clubs doing it tough. But so are many members.

Agree Joseph it's simple and they should have the courtesy to give members the option as to how they want to go. Those that can will donate their fees.

  • Joseph i am a member too; i thought that you can cancel at anytime? I must be wrong.....mine is the 4 game membership after we had full tickets last year - and it suits us much more. We decided to downgrade as the costs for us were too high and also we cannot get to Thurs/ Friday night matches. TBH it is a personal view but the club should be able to offer people part of /  money back for unused games; thats my view. It is about goodwill on both sides; and yes they can offer discounts etc for following yrs but people by then may have chosen other ways to view the game. It is tough for all concerned and I also am lucky to be in permanent employment.

  • Notice that it is called Membership not Season Tickets? If you bought a subscription and they could not provide what you had purchased, then you would expect to get your money back. In this case however you pay membership fees which gives you access to games. As a member you sort of become partly liable for the club's financial situation in a way. You are the club. I wonder how many will just buy tickets to games they wish to go to next season, rather than paying for membership?

Was reported in circles Galvins camp told Ryles he would come if they added 100k and he said no. Still great money but the club knew his worth and didnt bend to make it happen."
