Melbourne Touched Us Up Last Time; So What

Guys stop thinking about what happened last time we versed Melbourne. Have a look at the team list from round 9 and you'll agree with me.

1. Clint Gutherson
2. Maika Sivo
3. Michael Jennings
4. Brad Takairangi
5. Blake Ferguson
6. Jaeman Salmon
7. Mitch Moses
8. Daniel Alvaro
9. Reed Mahoney
10. Junior Paulo
11. Shaun Lane
12. Marata Niukore
13. Tepai Meoroa
Interchange
14. Peni Terepo
15. Tim Mannah
16. Oregon Kaufusi
17. Manu Ma’u

We had big problems around the ruck at that time. Nathan brown was injured, Manu Mau couldnt get a start and Kane evans was playing for wenty. Also Reed Mahoney was less than 10 games into the full time role of hooker. The improvement of all these players will slow down the melbourne forwards and tighten up our defense.

Our centres Takarangi and Jennings just werent cutting it. With the addition of waqa blake and the new spark that Jennings has found in defence we will stop alot of points being leaked this week.

Don't forget Gutherson was going through his contact dramas and sivo round 5 doesn't compare to sivo round 25. I haven't even gone into how much our attack has improved as a team since them.

Finally in my opinion the biggest difference is that Dylan brown was injured. When this kid is on the field the eels are a different team. Honestly I believe we will win this time and even if we lose it will be with our heads held up high.

  • Eels are 10/14 wins out of the games Dylan Brown has played.

  • I’ve got a stiffy.

    • So have I.......,since we’re being honest.

  • Asofa-Solomona and the Bromwich boys have been in tremendous form but so had Haas, Fifita & Co and our pack not only nullified them but dominated them. With Evans returning we have even more size and power so with a repeat performance  we may be able match them. I hope Evans can hit some of their big boppers like he did with the smaller Brad Parker. Their backline is going well and ours was scintillating last week so it looks like being a real contest this time.

I've got tickets on halfway at AAMI this week and no 900k drive to get to the game like last week, l now live in Melbourne . I've been a Parra supporter since 1966 and last week's game was right up there with the 4 grand final wins I attended in the 80s. I had to wait 15 years for our first premiership and I didn't think I'd have to wait more than double that time since our last for the next. However, I think we are very close now. We may be too raw and inexperienced this season but in the next year or two we'll be cherry ripe for success.

    GO PARRA!!!

    • Love your sentiment ADR.

      GO YOU MIGHTY EELS!!

  • I hope D Brown ready to do some tackling. In 2009 Grandfinal the Storm isolated Mortimer & ran big forwards at him and they open us up. But in saying that I think the Storm are ready for the picking!

    • Dylan Brown revels in the defensive side of the game and is a much better defender than Mortimer was. Daniel played great for us that year, though.

  • Don't forget we started with Teripo in hooker, Because Mahoney he too small.

  • I think the biggest difference is the inclusion of the Brown boys. Both are top notch defenders and we won’t leak points like we did round 9. This will be a cracking game I think.

    • That middle defence needs to be mobile and aggressive on every single play for us to win.

We also need to make sure we make metres coming out of our own end instead of one out hitups, 30m yardage and a midfield bomb. We will certainly be playing out of our own end all night against the smarts of melbourne.

"Sounds like Lomax wants out of the club regardless. I can't see him grovelling back, but he will need to sit out any game against Parra for the next few years. Will be interesting to see where this lands."
