  • Rumour is that he has signed

Schneider is only 18 and lost a year due to injury

not even ready for Wenty yet

    • Most of what your're saying is true. Schneider is only 18 and lost a year due to injury playing SGG Ball last year.

I think Parra are taking their time with his return and easing him back into the swing of things.

Schneider played the 1st mixed NRL / NSW cup trial v Souths and handeled the game just fine. Funny enough Mcillrick was the opposing #9 and Schneider out played him.

I think Parra are looking for a back up hooker ready to play NRL to relieve Mahoney until Schneider is ready.

      • Schneider has big potential - but thought we might be downplaying this atm

  • Is the rumour true or just another nothing rumour?

  • It’s a done deal mate. He sent out a group message to Souths teammates on the night of the season launch that he didn’t attend with the club that he signed with the Eels. 100% done.

    • Noticed he is not listed in Souths teams this weekend. Billy Brittain is listed at #9 in Canterbury Cup, and has the C next to his name, so looks like McIlwrick is gone.

When is this likely to be announced?

Not an overly exciting pick up, but will be better back up than Will Smith for hooker.

  • Bup

do you rate him ? I think off memory he is a tough cookie

    • Played really well in the few games I saw him play but commentaters kept mentioning that both his knees are shot. No cartilage left.

      • If both knees are shot, he surely wouldnt be medically cleared to play anywhere. If true then the Eels would be utterly stupid purchasing a player with two bunged up knees.

    • He’s too good for intrust or whatever it’s called this year . He makes plenty of metres from dummyhalf and has always looked a cut above in that grade however he hasn’t transitioned into first grade very well.

You’d have to assume it’s a confidence thing. The way teams are coached these days players are too scared to play any sort of non percentage football. The footballer , at least the heads up footballers instincts are coached out of them and the first thing to go is their confidence.

What Parra needed was an experienced hooker to counteract our inexperienced spine. The Eels have a tendency to play at a tempo the opposition dictates a calm head in the spine knows when to slow the game down , when to speed it up, when you need to restart your game plan or change it up. Mcllrick isn’t that man but he can do a job.
