Matt Parish to sue the Eels

Our old mate Proscenko is at it again. He must have been at the game with Spags again?Matt Parish is about to become embroiled in another public spat after instigating legal action against former employer Parramatta.Just days after his relationship with the estranged wife of broadcaster Ray Hadley made headlines, the NSW and Canberra assistant coach is suing the Eels over his time at the club. The matter, believed to be over his parting with the blue and golds, is scheduled to be heard in Fairfield Local Court later this month.Parish joined the Parramatta coaching staff as an assistant to Ricky Stuart in 2013 after narrowly missing out on the top job at Wests Tigers, which eventually went to Mick Potter. Stuart used a get-out clause in his Eels contract to join the Raiders this season and was replaced by former Manly assistant Brad Arthur. Ironically, Arthur got the Sea Eagles gig after it was vacated by Parish to start at the Eels.AdvertisementParish was the first casualty of the new coaching regime at Parramatta, being told last October he wasn't part of the future plans. He and fellow assistant Dean Pay followed Stuart to the nation's capital, while the club's under 20s coach, Andrew Webster, joined the Tigers. The Eels subsequently appointed former Hull FC mentor Peter Gentle and Steve Murphy from the Gold Coast, while St George Illawarra's Justin Holbrook took over the NYC team. The new Eels coaching team has enjoyed immediate success. Under the guidance of Arthur, the side has won five of their first nine matches, equalling their total number of victories for the 2013 season. While many pundits tipped Parramatta to win their third consecutive wooden spoon, they remain in contention for finals football. There could be more off-field changes for the Eels, a club riven by internal politics. Parramatta Leagues Club CFO Ciaron O'Flanagan has tendered his resignation and it's expected other key head office personnel could follow. There have been reports Parish and Pay were embroiled in a feud of their own. Parish oversaw the Samoan team which stood up Pay's NSW NYC side for a scheduled opposed training session, although it's believed the pair have put the issue behind them.Parish's other stoush, that with Hadley, has the potential to derail NSW's attempt to break Queensland's eight-year dominance of State of Origin. Hadley, according to Blues coach Laurie Daley, contacted NSWRL chief executive David Trodden "attempting to exert his influence and power to have Parish disciplined or stood down". Hadley admitted he asked officials to "be more circumspect in matters involving my wife" but had not asked for Parish to be sacked. The relationship between Parish and Hadley's estranged wife, Suzanne, was well known in league circles for some time. The private life of Hadley was destined to become public after it was revealed his Suzanne had issued an AVO against him and his son Daniel in February. The AVO was withdrawn shortly afterwards.Hadley's on-air partner, Bob Fulton, considered throwing in his position as chief adviser to Daley before Hadley talked him out of it. Ironically, another of Hadley's 2GB colleagues, Alan Jones, coached Parish at the Tigers and is one of his staunchest supporters.http://m.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/matt-parish-takes-parramatta-eels-to-court-20140517-zrfr6.html

  • He just can't let us enjoy a win
  • I'd like to know on what grounds Parish wants to sue the club. It's part of rugby league that generally if a coach leaves then the coaching staff goes as well. Also, why has it taken Parish until almost halfway through the season to decide to do this? He was released late last year.
    • Not sure but would imagine that court dates would have been set awhile ago.

Yes be interesting to see what grounds.  Parish was the last man standing of last years coaching crew for awhile there last year. There was even talk of him taking over from RS.Would imagine that there has to be something in the terms of his contract that he feels he can litigate on. Hopefully not successfully.

Maybe he was only hanging out till the new coach selected his assts, thereby getting the money and the box.

  • Didn't Parish take Arthurs' job from him when pRicky came to town???  Lets all chip in to allow Arthur to counter sue him.

  • Super, the grounds upon which he relies is a written contract.  Nothing else matters.

  • Fong nails it.

  • Everytime the eels win an article bringing the eels down comes out
  • Remember Pay and Parish spotted meeting at Canberra whilst still under contract to the Eels?
