He'd be demanding big coin, if Eels were too stingy to offer Mahoney 600k a season in arguably the most important position in a team I can't see them splashing the cash for someone like Burton.
That's the sad thing about it. We had players like Jennings on big dollars and got great value, supposedly were after Staggs etc yet we are now looking at Souths reserve graders.
Burton on 550-600k would be magic in the backline and provide backup to halves.
the only negative is our salary cap. If it no longer applies hell , ill have a Tedesco, Munster, Staggs, Grant, Papenhazyn , To'o and Hynes as well please. A couple would have to play reggies as backup. But our squad would have some depth. hahahahahahahahaha

We lost Jennings from our books last year, Fergo, Oldfield and a few fringe 1st grade players. We replaced them with reserves from within and average players like Rein and Simonsson.
At the end of this year we lose Mahoney, Papali'i, Niukore, Kaufusi and Stone. The only replacement signing for next year is an injury ravaged old bloke from Canberra.
Now with what we lost last year and will lose this year, that has to be close to 2 million from our cap.
Take into account the contracts that were upgraded ie Moses, Paulo, RCG and Gutho.
Rein wouldn't have cost much and I doubt we broke the bank for Simonsson. As for Hodgson, if we have spent more Thank 200k on him it's a waste of money.
Surely that leaves our salary cap in a very healthy position.
Because in that time there had also been upgrades for Gutho, Moses, RCG, Paulo, Dunster, Sivo, and there's going to be upgrades needed soon for Penisini, Russell, DB, Perham, and a probably a few more.
The salary cap is a constantly shifting landscape. It's not just a static picture like most fans seem to think it is.
It would be nothing like $2m. Papa is on 200k this season, Mahoney & Niukore about 250k each, Kaufusi probably 150k, Stone the same.
So that's about $1m. Gutho got an extra 100k, Moses an extra 150k, Junior an extra 100k, RCG an extra 200k, so that's 550k just there. Simonsson probably got 350k. Then you've still got to replace those guys with at least the minimum, so that's at least 400k you can't spend elsewhere.
Your 1 million accounts for what we lose this year.

We also tore up Jennings contract last year.
Fergo and Jennings alone were on a combined 1 million or close to it.
You can't sit there and tell me Simonsson and Rein cost us a million combined.

RCG is on $750k and his new contract is $800k
That's only an increase of $50k and not $200k.
Also aren't Penrith paying a sizeable portion of RCG's contract until the end of the 2023 season?
Gutho is currently on $780k and his new contract is $750k so that is a reduction of 30k and not an increase of 100k.
I believe Moses was on $850k. His new contract is $920k which is an increase of $70k and not $150k.
My understanding was gutho is currently on $730k and new contract $770k so a small increase, bretts numbers don't match reports.
