Mateo vs Tahu

OK, anyone who has seen my postings on here over the years knows I have a deep man-crush on Feleti. So, I'm somewhat distressed about all of this talk about him leaving the club. And while I'm glad to have Timana Tahu, I'm starting to wonder at what cost it has come.Given that we already have a pretty class lineup, my assertion is what value does Tahu - at around $300k+ a year actually bring to the side. And then weigh that up against who we're likely to lose to make way for him.Mateo? I'd take Mateo ten times a week before Tahu. If we can get Hayne and Mateo firing together we will have the best two attacking players in the competition in the same side!! I reckon I could play centre and score points running off those two.Its looking like we'll lose Lowrie after suffering him for years he finally comes good and now we can't fit him in. So is Timana Tahu worth, for example losing Mateo + Lowrie. I'll leave that up to you to decide but given how well our centres are going, its really debatable that we needed to tie up so much money in that position, especially given the guy's injury record.

  • And FFS Anderson put him in the team. It's getting ridiculous.
  • is Tahu definately on 300k?

I'm not 100% sure of the exact salary cap status for 2010, but I do know that parra is entitled to a medical exemption for some player payments this season due to Mateo being out for 12 weeks. This may or may not be a large chunk of cash, but if it is around the 50k which is what the whisper is, this could go along way toward ensuring that Mateo can stick around at the club. Also, i think that whilst these days everyone seems to be going wherever they can get the cash, I think there is some drive amongst players to also chase a premiership- something that Mateo may definately consider given our prospects for next year?
  • this depends if cayless retires at the end of 2010 this would free 350k and if burt leaves this year and anyone else i think matoe will stay i would rather mortimer 2-3 years he will steer the blues around
  • Supposedly Tahu is getting 200k next year and then 400k the following 2 years
    • yeah fair call, i'm not convinced back-ending is a great process as yet. its come to light specifically with cayless that the system can come unstuck.
  • Lol make him a back rower that seems to be the commentators answer from the warriors game knobs.
  • Yes it's an interesting debate, you could throw Inu Burt and Grothe in there aswell there all off contract next year, it's highly doubtful we will be able to keep all these stars.

I think its fair to say that our 2010 squad will be stronger and have more depth than our 2011 squad. 2010 will be our best chance of a premiership since 2001 (and we still have hope for this year aswell, giggity giggity)
  • i hope they dnt lose Mateo ever
i think they wont re-sign cayless to keep Mateo
  • Keep Mateo - cut Lowrie, Burt & Cayless.
    • Tahu by far is the better player for once i agree with you aaron
