Mateo pulling it together

Watch out NRL, Feleti Mateo is learning to make the most of his gifts, according to coach Daniel Anderson. The Australian today produced a terrific report, revealing that he and Mateo sat down and poured over video to look at when he should and shouldn't be passing after that pass which was thrown against the Dragons in Round 26."We had a chat about what's going to develop him as a player ... what's going to make him a better player."He has a real talent and I think he can offer our team a lot more ... and he can offer Parramatta more than what he's delivering now. He has a lot of quality, but I think there's more in him," Anderson was quoted as saying."If you look at the very, very good players it's not just one factor that contributes to their success. Invariably it's linked to a stack of factors. We didn't look at one play in his arsenal. We had a big discussion about a season's set of plays. He came to the solution, which was for me bang on."The result was last week's far more disciplined performance where Mateo only produced one offload but came up with some crucial plays, not the least was his opening try.Mateo admits knowing when to pass and when not to pass is something he's struggled with all his career because as Anderson noted he can pass on every hit up if he wanted - but that's not what is always best for the team."I got it wrong a couple of weeks ago against St George. I just worked on it last week and it was better. I was happy to turn it around," Mateo said.FULL STORY AT THE AUSTRALIAN

  • This guy's gonna be a big strike weapon tomorrow.
  • The article really exemplifies the value of Daniel Anderson as our Coach and the way he has gone about turning our season around. While the Coach can't get on the field and play the game for us, he certainly is making sure that each of the players knows what they could do better, and more importantly what their skills are and how they can benefit the team.

Mateo in particular is a huge talent and getting the best from him is important to our future.
  • There you go Member Name "Fui Fui".

That's what I was talking about, with Mateo knowing when to throw a pass. I am concerned now that we have destroyed his confidence & Mateo is no reluctant to throw a ball. Which we cannot afford. His freaky add lib ability to create something out of nothing is exactly what makes Mateo so valuable.

I think Morts & Mateo in 2010 is a best option where Mateo has the whole season to develop his game but also develop his decision making abilities. As Ando said Mateo is one of the few players that could off load just about every time he runs the ball. This is not % football.

Robo & Morts to finish the year & then Morts & Mateo 2010. This allows us to run another forward in 2010. Shit how strong are we going to be NY. But first lets win 2morrow nite.

Robo has a great kicking game. By playing Mateo at 5/8 (Morts out injured) this will but all the pressure on Robo to kick (With Hayne coming in when required). With Robo in the biggest game of his short 1st grade life, I think it would be a too big a challenge.

Some people have suggested our best option to beat the dogs is to run Morts & Mateo. This is 1) Crazy to drop Robo & 2) Change a winning formula in our most important game to date this year. Lets finish the year with Robo & Morts with Mateo a hug huge strike weapon as interchange.

    So summary is.
All players on deck for Friday nite. Half's - Robo & Morts - Mateo interchange.

Morts out - Half's - Robo & Mateo. We then need to plan our kicking game 'cause its going to be destroyed - We don't want Robo to carry all of the responsibility or worst still have Jarrod worried about coming in to take a kick which takes Jarrod away from an attacking option. We want Jarrod to be as free as possible to come in & kick if he wants or take a play left or right if he wants.

We are really really going to miss Morts if he doesn't play. Gee I hope he is there. I would go as far as saying we need Morts to win.

    Go Parra
  • I've been saying for a while the biggest travesty with Feleti's injury was that he didn't get to use this year under Anderson to take his game to where it could be at.

The thing that people ignore about Feleti's game is he has an amazing running game. Next year when he goes back to lock he'll make 100-120 metres for us every week. He always gets up over the advantage line and its a part of his game he hasn't really developed. The other thing is his passing game is going to be so much better when he's moving forward, and poking his head through the line because he won't just be offloading for second-phase play, he'll be offloading and putting his support players past the line.
  • I'm pretty sure that offload was not round 26. It was finals week 1.
