Mateo is being misused

I think the attempt to try and convert Mateo to a no frills lock forward is proving an abject failure.

He needs to given greater responsibility for our attack and get his hands on the ball more often and earlier.

Personally I would love to see him at 5/8 but realistically the number on his back doesn't have to change but his role certainly does,

  • Agree agree agree agree thats all i have to say.
  • Without weighing in on whether he should be 5/8th or not. I wouldn't say we've 'experimented' with Mateo at lock. He's played the majority of his football there, he was killing it at lock before he was moved to 5/8th to cover the loss of Tim Smith in 2008. It's not to say we wouldn't get more out of him at 5/8th, but the thought of having mateo, keating and mortimer on the park at once is too good to pass up.
  • agree
  • Mateo 5/8, Morts 1/2, Smith lock, KK 9, MK bench, Robbo Wenty. We need to change things to try and wake up this team.
  • Oake would be better used starting at lock as well so he can tackle his heart out.
  • I am basing my opionion on watching the championship lawn bowls mate.
  • To me, Mateo seems scared to off load this year, in 3 games he has hardly offloaded at all. I wonder if this is because he was dropped last year because of his bad offloads that cost us game after game...

So why put him at five-eight i think. Lock is his position.
  • I think i would like to see him stay at lock. KK half, Morts 5/8th and Robbo bench.
  • Spot on. Although this may be a bit tough to hear, but you'd hardly say Mateo's form in 2010's been anything to crow about. But perhaps he's one of those guys that needs others around him to fire. Still, if the Eels want to resign him we should do it now. We'd get him for $80K rather than the $350K he's asking. In fact re-sign everyone now while they're playing crap! Ha!
  • I agree with this strategy, as for Mateo at 5/8 he's far more creative and we need him to get the ball more on second phase play to create those opportunities, he's having less impact at lock and were not getting what we need from him, lets get more razzle dazzle from the big fella!!
