Mateo bemused by Dog reports

FELETI Mateo has denied talking to the Bulldogs about moving to Canterbury next season, according to Parramatta chief executive officer Paul Osborne. ``I spoke to him on Sunday at Cronulla and he said he was bemused by it,'' Osborne said of a newspaper report Mateo had held secret talks with the Bulldogs.``I can only take him at his word.''.... Bulldogs CEO Todd Greenberg said he was unaware of meetings with Mateo, but he confirmed an interest in Krisnan Inu and injured halfback Kris Keating has also been linked to Bulldog approaches. ``I have spoken to Krisnan Inu and he and Mateo and Keating are contracted until the end of next season,'' Osborne said. ``I'll be working on keeping Jarryd Hayne and Daniel Mortimer.'' Osborne said contrary to reports, Parramatta would not have to shed any contracted players to accommodate 2010 signings Justin Poore, Shane Shackleton and Timana Tahu. ``It will be tight under the salary cap but we should just manage it,'' he said. http://www.blacktownsun.com.au/news/local/sport/general/mateo-here-to-stay-says-ceo/1586457.aspx

  • I'd certainly be hoping we put just as much effort into locking up Kris...
  • keep mateo at all costs
    • I wouldn't be breaking my neck to re-sign Mateo just yet. I'd be tempted to wait until mid-2010 before committing any big dolars towards him. If mid-2010 is too late and some other club has snapped him up at $300K+ then I'd wear that. Before injury this year he was poor. Yes I know he was playing out of position and had a heap of pressure on him being the go to man but if that's the cap that fits he should wear it. If the playmaking role doesn't fit well with him or he can't handle it then he can't very well demand masssive dollars like Hayne could at the moment. I wouldn't be keeping him "at all costs" until I see what he's got to offer in the number 13 next year.
  • Yes that's been worrying me also 1Eyed. There has been talk of resigning, Mateo, Hayne and Mortimer, but Keats is off contract at the same time as these blokes and he hasn't really been mentioned, i understand he isn't as big of a "name" as the other three however he's no less important to our long term plans imo.
  • i wouldn't lose any sleep if kris keating left us.
  • Hate to say it but I'm on this one with Jamesy, I'd rather sign Mateo and Mortimer, and if we can keep k keating that's a bonus.
I'm more of a fan of he's brother, he's had a solid season, contrary to what some think.
    • Can't agree with that. KK has shown more spark and creativity in half a dozen first grade games than Matt Keating has in nearly 2 years in the top grade. He's yet to prove it for any long stint in the top grade, but Kris Keating has long been regarded as one of the more gifted players of his age. I think he will develop in to an outstanding 6 or 7 in the coming years.

Matt Keating has been shown up this year by the other KK, Kevin Kingston. MK has been steady rather than brilliant. He is prone to poor options in attack, dummying at the wrong time, passing at the wrong time and definitely kicking at the wrong time on occasions. Yes he has come up with 1 or 2 40/20's but some of the other kicks I've seen him put in have been sorely lacking.
  • Again, I'll reiterate the comment. Short memories. Go and dig up KK's matches at seven this year. He showed just as much as Morts has.
    • Exactly, 1eyed! - KK & Morts together in the top grade, with a bit of seasoning in them, will be special!! - While I applaud Robbo's efforts since Finch left & with injuries, he was always a stopgap & an able backup (& I think he knows that). Who wouldn't want to see the KK & Morts show, ala Toyota Cup of a couple years ago?? - I think DA is doing a fantastic job of moulding a team he was given by Hagan. The future only looks better!!
  • Must keep Inu & Mateo, Keating can do whatever he wants-stay or leave-, he's never going to win us a premiership

I'm not saying that is OK but surely a punch in the face is at a minimum just as bad but in my opinion a lot worst.

I wonder if the NRL has any regrets…"
