Match Report: The fat lady sings

2010 is over for the Parramatta Eels after they went down to an undermanned Souths 24 to 16.

A season that promised so much has ended in the same kind of disappointment that prevailed through most of the year.

It was a match where the Eels came out determined to play razzle dazzle football but forgot about going forward first. With little go forward and mistakes aplenty, the Eels failed to mount any pressure and subsequently there were no points to be had. Fortunately Souths were equally inept and both sides played out a scoreless first half.

However the Bunnies were quick to score in the second stanza and things went from bad to worse. South put on four second half tries to the Eels three and were deserved winners.

Soft tries to Rhys Wesser and Jaiman Lowe put the Eels under the hammer, before Parramatta got one back when Justin Horo charged onto a short Kris Keating pass. How we'd like to have seen more of that kind of play through the year.

However, that feint sniff of hope was rubbed out almost immediately when Isaac Luke bust through more feeble defence and then David Taylor sealed the game by snatching a bomb out of the air from Jarryd Hayne.

Parramatta got two late tries back as Feleti Mateo, finally shifting into five-eighth after Daniel Mortimer was pulled from the field, cut loose. He first put Kris Inu away with an incredible pass and then scored a solo try on the buzzer.

How Daniel Anderson can find some improvement in this side for 2011 is anyone's guess. The two players who put on points tonight, will not be here next year and as it stands there are no marquee signings.

There are a lot of eggs riding in the Quade Cooper basket.

If the Hapless Eels dont announce a couple of big signings before next year(especially a half) il be seriously considering not renewing my season ticket.Tonight with our season hanging by a thread we had no go forward,no structure in attack and no aggresion in defence which given the situation is unforgivable.Iv been a supporter of Ando all year but after tonight i think he might aswell pack his bags coz the players dont want to play for him and they certainly arnt paying any attention to his coaching.We have been making the same basic mistakes all year,our kicking game sucks,our halves cant stick to a game plan or create anything in attack and its got to the point where i really struggle to sit through a game of footy.I used to look forward to our game all week but at the moment it is literally like pulling teeth and with minimal recruitment for next year its actually scary to think where we may end up.

We were never really in the mix all year. At times brillant, but mostly just average. We need some recruitment fast - losing plenty of players and some we have kept are running on old legs.

terrible performance in the end....... same hopes, same result each an every year.....

In reality I watched a South side play shit and a eels side whom equally played shit the most boring game I have witnessed in a long time !!!!!!!!!!!

Time for a new header for the site...

I say put Horo's head up there or Foi!!......... Really they have been the only stand outs this year!!

I do feel sorry for the team....but than i feel anger......than i feel sorry. We really have lacked a decent half back and tonught without Robson we were absolutely diabolical!!!!!

Many things to ponder in the off season, D Mortimer not ready for a regular 1st grade gig at the moment, good front rowers when on a big plus, horo on the improve and the $64 dollar question who is the half to lead us into 2011, someone who can create, kick and control the tempo, certainly many more questions than answers and last years golden run papered over many cracks that are now in need of serious repair, as for bandwagon teams I am on the ROOTERS as my dear UNCLE RAPHAEL who recently passed was a mad roosters man and I love the way they spread the ball and create opportunities, we will support hard next weekend then rest till next year when it's all on again, LONG LIVE THE EELS!!!!
