Parramatta have gritted out a hard-fought 13 to six victory over the Cronulla Sharks to win the inaugural Jon Mannah Cup.
Yes, it was an ugly game and yes, the Sharks were inept in attack without Todd Carney, but this was a critical victory for the Eels who would have gone a long way to healing any psychological scars that would have been in danger of being in grained following last week's 50 point drubbing.
The win continues the side's impressive form at Parramatta Stadium. They are simply a different side at home.
In the end, it was one moment of exceptional centre-play from the ever-improving Ryan Morgan that was the different. Morgan showed scintillating acceleration and evasion to beat his man and score the Eel's opening try. And then he made it a double when he was set up by Luke Kelly. Kelly calmy slotted home the winning field goal, as the clock ticked down to a memorable victory that would have been particularly special for club captain Tim Mannah.
