Mark Gasnier Joins Paramatta as Assistant Back's Coach

It's been reported that Mark Gasnier will be our specialist back coach.

It's another good signing. This should ramp up the development of our backs and the young guys coming through.

Jason Ryles is certainly leaving no stone unturned.

Although Mark Gasnier hadn't held a coaching job since hanging up the boots in 2011, Ryles sees great value in the appointment.

“I actually got him down to Melbourne (several seasons ago) when I was there as an assistant a couple of times and the boys were really receptive of his input,” Ryles told CodeSport.

“I always kept that in my mind, that if ever I was to get a job, I’d get him involved again.

“He’s been loving it. He enjoys coming in to work with the outside backs.

"He talks to them about their craft and breaks down the intricate parts of playing in the backs that I can’t pass on.

“He also sits down and does video with them."

“It’s only a small role, but there’s no doubt he can have an influence," Ryles added.

  • Really making sure he has all the resources he needs

    • Has the club only just made these resources available, or did BA refuse to access them. Im glad change is happening but makes you wonder if BA was offered these extras, or the club has finally realised they needed to provide more?

      • Not sure BA was offered this, more so he didn't reach out. Not like the club said to Ryles "We got Gaz for you" all the staff is Ryles directive, as a coach should have.

Now BA could have felt he didn't want extended coaches. Maybe too many cooks in the kitchen type thing and that's fine. Ryles seems to like the help where he can get it.

        • Maybe Ryles has said, every club he worked at & won comps have these setups. Very happy with this signing.

          • Not saying it's a good way of going about it, just trying to figure out the difference in philosophy between BA and Ryles.

        • BA had consultants...inc Ennis, McGregor and Johns over the years.

IMO, he stuck with Murphy and co for way too long.

        • I agree. You have to spend money to make money. But obviously have to spend it in the right areas. I don't know why but I have a sense of calm over the comings and goings in the club. We obviously needed change, but the changes appear to be happening in the right places.

  • Players like penisini getting specialist training will be huge , he needs that as hasn't really pushed on since debut .

He is getting quality assistants , exciting times can't wait to see how we will attack come next season

    • I wonder if they'll consider moving Penisini to wing and use Bailey at Centre. Bailey seems more at home at centre and I think Penisini could be a dynamic metre eater from the wing bit like To'o

      • If Simonsson is to go to Centre it's at the expense of Lomax.
