He was atrocious during his NRL time at Parra. It was hardly his fault, he was the back up 7 at 18 years old with about 6 NSW Cup games under his belt in a side that needed to win games to finish top 4. He was that far off the pace when he was called upon. 2 years on he might now be showing signs of being able to fill such a role.
He sat on the bench as a utility in a finals series including in a game in Townsville with humidity and heat we couldnt really afford to carry 16 blokes in. He was completely mismanaged at Parra. Manly is the best thing for all parties.
The other big problem for mine was we have 2 halves on close to a million. If one is out the other should take on extra responsibility and lead the side, like DB was asked to do in the last couple of rounds this year. Asking Jake to lead the side as a back up playmaker and Dylan to continue to just do what he does was stupid in both their development. From the outside looking in BA really babied DB at times... told him he wants him to play a simple game , just run the football, make his tackles, really simplfy it.. If youre using a million of your cap on someone theyre expected to be more than that. It was a situation BA couldnt handle having Jake at the club.

There is always this line of thinking that young players need to serve a really good apprenticeship before being promoted into the top grade against those that believe that if you are good enough, you are old enough.
I know this has been done to death but if ever there was a cautionary tale of a young player being promoted to the top grade way way before he was ready it was Jake. He would go really well in the UK and I hope that's where he ends up and has a long and fulfilling career.
Its going to be interesting to see if BA has learned the lessons with young Matt and how he brings him along. From all reports he has a bit of talent but he doesnt need to go from a few games of Flegg to next man up in NRL .

I really hope not - for young Matthew's sake. All reports is that he's a pretty decent player. The very last thing he needs is to be elevated way too soon like his brother was. Hopefully when Matt's ready for the NRL, BA is gone.
Pretty confident to take bets he will be in the top 30 at some stage in 2024. Big bro gone, next sibling up mentality. Hopefully O'Neil farks off to Tigers before next season starts and BA can follow him in 2025 after Benji and Buddies are complete failures next year. Watch this space.

They have also extended JA for 2 years.
I'm happy for Jakey but he's in the same spot as he was at parra. Brooks DCE with Jake a cover.
Which is a real shame because I actually watched the last few manly games and Jake was playing really good.
He was never anywhere near as bad as being made out. He showed the basic skills of a decent player ,

He can't control himself.
As soon as he can, Matt will be thrust into 1sts.
I guarantee it.
