Manly's Manase Fainu has been charged with allegedly stabbing a man at a church dance in Sydney last Friday.

Fainu was charged on Tuesday after handing himself in at Liverpool Police Station and was denied bail over the incident. He is due to face court on Tuesday afternoon.

The 21-year-old Sea Eagles hooker was charged with "wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, affray and recklessly cause grievous bodily harm in company," according to a NSW Police Media statement on Tuesday.

In their statement, NSW Police Media added: "Police will allege in court that the man was involved in an altercation when he produced a knife and stabbed another man."

Police allege that a 24-year-old man was treated for stab wounds at 11.30pm on Friday night following a brawl in Wattle Grove.

The man was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Both Manly and the NRL Integrity Unit have been made aware of the police investigation, with the Sea Eagles saying in a statement on Monday that "the club is monitoring the situation pending further investigation".

The NRL are yet to comment on the matter.

Fainu's post-season shoulder surgery had ruled him out of representing Tonga following a breakout year for the Sea Eagles.

He is rated one of the game's most promising young hookers, with his rise as Manly's first-choice rake seeing the club release Api Koroisau to Penrith in 2020.

  • Another Eels junior pottentialy joining the exclusive club of crims playing for the Eels.

  • He dosn't play for us even though he was a junior so it's Manlys issue. Another bone head that dosn't know what he's got until it's gone. Well it's gone. You can't do that shit.

    • Kid was the future of the future hooker. Like a young Damien Cook but more invasive. Huge lose for Tonga too.

  • Fainu, great prospect with huge talent but no brain obviously. Previously in trouble for illegally filming a sexual act without his partner's consent now he taken a knife to a church dance with disastrous consequences.

Manly will be regretting they let Api Korisau go back to Penrith. Fainu was going to be a major part of their plans for next season. Oh well, it's Manly and not Parra. His outstanding form this season Ied me to check out Fainu's background and I was very disappointed to find he was born at Westmead and was passed over by Parramatta officials. Manly picked him up like they do many of our juniors but it looks to have backfired on them this time as Fainu is in serious trouble now.

  • Remember that article where he talked shit about the eels because we "wouldn't give him a go" probably because we knew you were a dickhead

    • 100%

  • Suck a big one Manly. I can't help but laugh, especially after they let Api Koroisau go. Honestly, who stabs someone at a Church event?? The stupidity of NRL players has hit an all-new high with this one.

  • You've gotta do time for stabbing someone. Especially where there's no self defence involved.

His sentence will probably be decided where he stabbed the victim. Attempted murder or malicious wounding is the question.

    • Grevious bodily harm and assault with a deadly weapon. Possibly attempted murder but i doubt that. Will definitely do time if found guilty
