Making moves to resign Sandow

In light of losing our chief playmaker this year, i believe the Eels should make it top priority to resign Sandow. There is no certainty that we will sign either Cherry Evans or Foran and we can ill afford to lose Sandow to a rival team and then endup with no-one.DCE or Foran can both play 5/8 and i believe that Sandow is fast fulfilling his potential to being one of the best and most consistant halfbacks in the NRL.I think the Eels need to make a decision to either resign him now and then concentrate on one of DCE or Foran or let him know he wont get a new contract and actively start looking for a new one.

  • I'd offer him a 2 year deal and would be looking to go hard for Foran. I don't think Sandow will be in a position where he'll have much bargaining power Re length of a new contract. I doubt there would be an NRL club willing to sign him long term after seeing what happened with his first 2 years for us.

Offer him 2 years tops, and not much more per annum than he's already on and that'd be as much as I would be willing to negotiate.

  • No
I've said my piece on Sandow many times.

Brad Arthur is too smart to re-sign Sandow.
  • Can't be that smart he resigned Sefa.

    • Sefa would have re-signed on a very reduced contract, a massive difference from Sandow who's on over half a mil.
  • Mightn't be as much as Sandow, but Sefa is on a lot more than you think and he touches the ball more than anyone else except for the dummy  half.

  • I think Chrissy would probably sign on a reduced contract. He seems very settled at the club, the club has shown a lot of patience and understanding with him, and I think the last thing he'd be wanting to do right now is uproot and have to start again at another club.

I've always said that even if Sandow wasn't your first-choice half that I'd have him in my side as a super-sub. I think the best rosters all have a three genuine NRL halves so I wouldn't see any downside on us resigning him for another two years if we weren't overpaying.

    • I don't see him taking a reduced contract. Who would take 150k less than the previous year.

Even then a 400k Super Sub, no thanks.
    • Ok. But does that include leagues club contributions ;-).
  • Re-sign him, definitely.

Even if he isn't starting, there is a role for him to play at the club during games and within the organisation.

Besides, if push comes to shove & the club can't sign Foran, DCE or anyone else, he's a very solid player to have starting in the halves.

    • In the 2 years Chris has been with us he's shown he's an off the cuff player and not the organiser we've been crying out for the last 2 decades.  And we've shelled out 500K a season for him to provide our team little more than a cute smile and the occasional 40/20.

And now because some may consider getting Foran or some other star half for "16" a risk that may not be successful it's touted that we should consider ourselves lucky to have Chris and so re-sign him now.

Well bollocks to that. With all the cap space we'll look to have available in 16 if we can't identify and sign at least 1 creative organising half back by mid next year we'll deserve to be saddled with Chris and that would be tragic.

All we have to do is put the same amount of effort into ensuring we get that quality organiser that this team has been crying out for since Sterlo as we have in buying up 2nd-rowers ad nauseum over the years.

We shouldn't settle for mediocrity any longer, now's our chance to invest in that half-back we've always pictured leading our side to win after win and making our club the envy of all others.
