Major Sponser vs TPA's

i was thinking why do we need a Major Sponser for our beloved eels. Consider this scenario " A major Sponser comes on board and pays the club directly say 1 million dollars. The club uses this sponsorship money to pay players, this goes towards our salary cap. Wouldn't it be in our clubs and supporters interest to instead have Major Sponsers actually donate the cash into a TPA fund under the TPA system (third party system) . This way the million dollars is used to top up salaries of players Iunder the TPA system and not part of the salary cap. Surely this allows us to compete for the best players. Our Leagues club remains as the major Sponser as it already returns enough to cover the teams expenses with the NRL yearly grant. Now to remain at arms length under the TPA system why don't we start a company that actually sources these TPA,s and redirects the money to the required players etc. Take it a step further the new company actually manages the whole process, advertises and promotes the TPA sponsors and how they Sponser a certain player etc. I can't see a downside our Eels get access to better TPA funding, we are able to compete for the best players $ wise, sponsors still get promoted. I don't see to many down sides.Go Parra

  • It's as simple as the major sponsorship entitles the company to have a jersey opportunity to advertise themselves australia wide.

On the other hand a tpa's sponsor would hardly get similar recognition, therefore wouldn't be tipping in the same revenue.
  • As Chief said Sponsors get the benefit of advertising on our jerseys. The football club gets the benefit of additional funds they can use to cover operating costs. Remember how our RLFC was running at a loss and had to be constantly topped up by the Leagues Club? That is why you need sponsors.
  • All things said I can't believe after finishing top 4 we don't have a front shirt sponsor. I think we should be told what they are holding out for.
    • Why? tell me what difference it would make!

  • Sounds goodbut cantill wanna so my company off  but other ones like boots or sporting gear or  food company or things use players make ads ween if atgames on big screen when score or tv or where can use them

Depends who you mean by "we". If "we" I anyone connected to the club in any capacity then it's not "at arms length".

A non-club TPA has to be truly independent from the club. The Broncos got around this with the Thoroughbreds. The Roosters get around this by using Politis' many business connections/friends - people who know people. The Bunnies utilised the pulling power of Russell Crowe to get their premiership.

If we had an uber-fan with a lot of money and a lot of connections we'd have players getting TPAs left, right and centre. Unfortunately I don't think Chris Bath makes that kind of bank...
    • Sounds like a " coterie"

  • ;-) Exactly Poppa!
  • Howe did that work out again?
