OFFICIAL - Maika re-signs with Eels for 2 years

The Parramatta Eels have re-signed powerful winger Maika Sivo for two years until the end of the 2023 season.

Maika made his NRL debut with the Eels in 2019 and quickly became a fan favourite, scoring an incredible 39 tries with the Club to date.

He will play his 50th NRL game in Round 4 against Wests Tigers.

Parramatta Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos said, “Maika has played an important role in our team over the last two seasons and we are delighted that he will continue to bring excitement to our Members and fans, especially at Bankwest Stadium.”

Maika was a finalist for the Dally M Rookie of the Year Award in his debut season and claimed the 2019 Ken Irvine Medal for leading try scorer.

He represented Fiji in the inaugural World Cup Nines tournament in 2020.

  • Well done. One of the premier wingers in the league

  • Matty Johns said it well the other night, he is a confidence player. ATM his confidence is sky high so hope he can continue further.

  • If he can keep the form up from this year after signing great. Hopefully he doesn't fall back into last years form. I must say this year is the hardest I have seen him bringing the ball back from kicks which is great looks like he has that confidence now to run the ball back hard and absorb the impact, last few years it looked like he was scared a little bit.

    • he is only in his hird year est_88, I am not sure if he was scared physically but mentally I believe he was scarred by the legal case against him..... the other thing is that he has effectively now had his first full preseason with us and it has made a big difference.

I personally lost confidence in him last year but am delighted to see him back on his pedestal.

  • I never had a doubt he would re sign. He has his deficiencies, particularly in reading D, but he is a matchwinner as he proved the other night, and as we know, us funs love him.SIVO SIVO

    • I really don't agree that there is much wrong with his defence. I bet if you did a statistical analysis of tries scored down his wing compared with other players it wouldn't be too bad. I actually think he reads the game pretty well and he tackles effectively. I remember similar criticisms of Semi and didn't think they were right either.

I think a lot of you get your panties in a bit of a twist about wingers defence just because most tries happen to be scored on the wing.

  • He looks good this year hopefully he keeps it up and 2 years is good as well, not to short and not to long.

  • Good news - hopefully he can steam roll a few opponents this year.

  • He wouldve had sweet fa confidence last year with that allegation hanging over his head . Did i also read last season he had a leg / calf injury too ?

  • Glad to see we are exploiting his aerial ability. One of his country coaches said he was a weapon with attacking kicks when we first got him.

Anyone know how much he is getting a year?
