Did he have a good relationship with Angus? He will be a good assistant. This will finally shut up Franky Fong talking about how we don't have assistants with brains. Even though he didn't have a good year nobody can deny his football knowledge

Assistant coaches are appointed by Head coaches.
To make it easier for you, that means:
BA hired Madge.
Madge knew the position that was being offered to him. So did BA. Madge will have a stipulation in his contract that releases him if an opportunity to coach as head coach comes up somewhere else.
