Ma'u facing time on the sideline

Newcastle captain Kurt Gidley, Manly forward Justin Horo and Parramatta's Manu Ma'u are all facing bans for dangerous contact in Round 13 of the Telstra Premiership.

NSW Blues and Sydney Roosters halfback Mitchell Pearce was also hit with a dangerous grade one contact charge to the head/neck of Sharks winger Michael Gordon, but he will escape any ban with an early guilty plea.

Blues prop James Tamou will also escape suspension with an early guilty plea for his grade one dangerous contact charge on Parramatta's Pauli Pauli.

Gidley was handed a grade one dangerous contact charge by the match review committee for his indiscretion on Raiders five-eighth Blake Austin. While the charge only carries 90 points with an early guilty plea, Gidley has a 20 per cent loading for a prior non-similar offence within the past two years. Gidley also has 51 carry-over points to be added from a prior offence.

Horo's charge of dangerous contact to the head/neck of Broncos fullback Darius Boyd also has a base penalty of 100 points but he has a 50 per cent loading for a similar offence within the past two years.

Ma'u was charged in Monday night's match against the Cowboys for grade two dangerous contact to the head/neck of Ray Thompson. Ma'u also has a 20 per cent loading for a non-similar offence in the past two years and also has 63 carry-over points. This means he will still serve a two-match ban with an early guilty plea.

The other player charged over the weekend was Tigers forward Sauaso Sue who copped a grade two careless high tackle charge on Titans five-eighth Aidan Sezer. Sue can escape a ban with an early guilty plea.

  • Farken ridiculous. Got to be a stitch up.
Running requires bending and lifting of the knees, maybe we should play in wheel chairs to give the opposition a fair go.
Heads don't belong down there. Its unfortunate Thompson got injured but it was his fault.
    • Agreed Tank. If Mau gets charged then so should Tomou for his run at Mannah. What a fucking joke.

  • So running the ball up hard is illegal in the NRL now. Well I'll  be.

  • What?!!!!!!!!!!

Mau wasn't even penalized, if he is supended that will do me for the season and I am not even joking. Mau didn't even raise his knee he ran with the same gait toward the line, he can't help it if Thompson puts his head in the wrong spot.

  • WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many weeks did Hurrel get for lifting his knee and breaking a players jaw?

I wish that Cowboys ************* had his *********ing ************* smashed. At least that would justify the charge on Manu.

Also - The match review committee has previously stated that 'intent' is a factor when charging players. Manu has NO intent. It was the midgets fault for going down low. Seriously - who tries to tackle Manu that way? He always runs hard at the line.

  • Don 't even remember Ma'u s contact. Does anyone have footage of it?

    • RL Vine's post on Vine
    • Wow. He ran hard....so what? If that's a grade 2 then I think the paranoia regarding bias is no longer paranoia. Its blatant.
  • watch it at normal speed manu is just running hard....wtf

    • Yep. Manu's knees were at a constant height, he didn't lift his right knee outside of just running it up.
