Lurker - cap presssures

With the following article, by Lurker it really puts a question mark over pretty well every NRL club in the competition.

Club's salary cap tangle

There is one NRL club facing huge salary cap issues.

They have bought up big in recent months and are now feeling the strain.

They have until January to sort out the mess.

I expect more players at the club to be shown the door in coming weeks, a move that won't please them given most other clubs are now right on their salary caps.

  • Recent months = Manly. It could really hurt their depth if true having only just enough players for the 17 each week. If they suffer injuries like they did this year (not that many but to key players) they'll be struggling.

    • The news that Manly are top rung to sign Rabbitos centre Dylan Walker & having to shed several others makes you wonder, yet how many has Souths had to list to get Burgess?

Similar things can be found with the dogs as they want to sign Hoppa, need to rid some of their older stars. List can go on with the clubs.  Where dioes Cronulla sit?  Oh Dear! where are the eels especially with the dramas we had/have?

  • Manly.
  • good Ol DCE!!
  • Buy up their best 18/22 year olds.Hit them where it'll hurt and shore up our own deficiencys.
    • Agreed. If possible I'd be taking Hiku off their hands and be saying that we'll pay all of his salary if they release Ramien and possibly another one of their young players if they don't want to release their young players then only say we'll pay part of Hiku's salary. I don't think there'd be many clubs that could accommodate Hiku in their salary cap this late into the year.

    • The thing is the just pulled over Goodall and Lavaka from us. I've seen them both in training photos. They have bought up big this year.
  • Souths released Isaac Luke earlier this year despite him still having 2 years left on his contract. They also released Lurgess, GStewart and are likely to release Walker possibly some more players too. Surgess' deal would be massively back-ended so I don't expect Souths to make any big name signings for a while.

Dogs, Sharks nor us have spent massively in the last few months. Manly recently have signed Taupau, and Walker. Plus it's already speculated elsewhere that they need to release players for the Walker signing to be made.

  • Yes Bup, buy up some good young players. they have a prop in the NYC I saw, he looks good. Cannot recall name. Nice avatar Bup....

    • If he looked like a mini George Rose it was Addison Demetriou, if not then it would have been Liam Knight.
