LUKE LEWIS ON THE MARKET?

Would Luke Lewis be a good recruit for the blue and gold.

I say YES, his signing would bode well for Parra.

Luke Lewis

Lewis on the market?

  • Two weeks ago I told you about the shock Dale Finucane move to the Storm and now I’m hearing whispers of another big off-season transfer.
  • A few rival clubs are mentioning the name of Sharks veteran Luke Lewis - and apparently he is available if the price is right.
  • The arrival of young gun Jack Bird from the Dragons and the return of Jayson Bukuya from the Warriors has seen the Sharks’ back-row strength swell.
  • Out wide, by contrast, the Sharks are still short of some genuine strike power and the club could use Lewis’ money to boost this critical area.
  • Lewis has been a great player for many years but at 31, is clearly in the tail-end of his career.
  • He managed just eight games for the Sharks this year and made little impact in those, prompting officials to question his value - particularly as he is one of the club’s highest-paid players.
  • Stand by for developments after the Christmas break.

PS  Apologies in advance is this is old news on this site. Even a regular like myself misses some things from time to time.

  • Do we have enough experience in the plentiful forwards we have?

Watmough was a good start, but just a start nonetheless.  I reckon one more hardhead like Lewis puts us well in the running for a Top8 finish.

  • two or three years ago, yes, now, no.

  • He played Origin this year and Test Matches last year.

That was some fall from grace.

  • Yes, that is a concern, just like it is with Watmough.

But if we get lucky and either or both of them have a good run with injuries, they become awesome signings.

We are one of few clubs with cash to spend, have probably the youngest forwards in the comp, and it's unlikely a younger rep forward will be on the market for 2015. It makes sense to sign him on a 1 or 2 year contract.

  • On 200k i'd say yes for experience alone, but he will be asking plenty more than that, and i'm not sure where we would fit him in.

He's certainly a leader but would be a big risk with injury, so its a no from me, i'd guess he would be looking for 400k+ for his swan song, way more than he is worth.

  • Just as Watmough will prove to be a great buy, I would take Lewis at the right price and offer a 2 year deal.

  • Fark Lewis, he's way past it.

  • Id take him,1 or 2 years would be good. He would bring alot of experience. He and Watmough are familiar with each other from NSW and Aus.

  • No Way.

Looking at how iongi played at 6, I think it's safe to say he is our fullback. How good is junior going this year!

"We won't get LH. NAS is what our young forwards need. He's going to want to prove a point and will come cheap.
