Luke Kelly

I have been a renowned Luke Kelly hater for years but I think his two past games have been his best ever. He wasn't flashy in either but if he can remain solid in any further opportunities I wouldn't mind seeing him remain our back up half. I would like to see some more creativity though.

  • Because we won
  • I was watching the game yesterday and thought our last play options were alright, but nothing special. Without Hayne playing they seemed to play it on the last instead of kicking the ball and thankfully it worked out for us. But i liked having Kelly there as an extra option for a kicker. But how the hell did he miss that last conversion?

If we can increase the conversion rate per game to at least 75% then we won't need to rely on scoring more tries to win matches. But i thought i heard somewhere that Kelly had been kicking pretty well lately.

  • Kelly did well, but then again I wasn't surprised.

Nice controlling kicking game and pin-point bombs, decent last tackle options, some great second-man passes, especially to Sandow which led to our first try to Toutai and defended very well. Objectively, and overall, he had a higher involvement and more impact on the game than Norman, even though Norman defended well.

  • Compare Kelly to the Bulldog's back up halves. They have absolutely zero depth in the halves, whereas between Kelly, Norman and Sandow we have 3 NRL quality halves who can all contribute throughout the year.

  • Oh OK . I didn't realise they had another one in Mbye

  • I'd assume we'd go Matterson and Api Peweiranghi. Still got to better combination than Ennis/Tony Williams/Josh Jackson

    • PAULO AND FORAN

  • When Kelly got dropped for Sandow in Round 4 (and rightfully so at the time), amid all the Kelly-bashing that went on and has continued since - I tried to say that people were misjudging him. I have never said that Kelly is a world-beater, but he is a solid NRL player, especially when his confidence is up. I've also said since there will be times in the season where we will need him again. I couldn't believe people suggesting he should be let go. His value to the club and versatility was there to be seen these last two weeks.

  • yeah players like Kelly you need in your squad for situations like the last 2 weeks
  • I know BA doesn't like carrying a utility on the bench, but with the unfortunate injury to Manu ma'u, I would think Pauli Pauli comes into the second row and Kelly might/should be a chance to be retained on the bench this week. I'd be doing something else with the team selection (5/8), but I don't have that honour ;)

"Samrani reminds me of Kane Linnett for NQ back in the day. Not a massive player in attack but defensively was sound. He won't be playing Origin or anything I doubt, but can he be a very steady 10 year NRL player at Centre? Most definitely.

"It's quite disappointing how Penisini has panned out.
He should of been a world class centre by now, and I honestly thought he would of been when he 1st came onto the scene.
I do hope Ryles can get him there but not sure if a change of club is what…"
