Luke Burt to 5/8

Totally just throwing something from left field here. for 2010 does anyone think that burty could handle 5/8 with morts at halfback. That would let us play the guru / reddy, tahu / inu combo's with superfreak at fullback, while putting the keating boys on the hooker rotation. From what i've seen burty has all the skills to make the change, though of course its extremely unlikely to happen lol.

  • dont think burty will be able to handle the defence. but yer he does have the skills i remember vs manly this year when k.k broke his jaw burt went to halfback and played alright.
    • defence was the one that popped to mind for me as well but morts and kk can handle it and they are no bigger that luke.
      • Morts, KK and MK have trained most of their lives defending close to the ruck. Luke Burt has been out on the wing all his career. A bit tough an ask to switch a small, veteran winger into 5/8th at this stage of his career.
  • What bout robo
  • Burt was touted as a potential five eigth about 6 or 7 years ago. I think he has all the skills to play there and I was a big fan of it happening but I doubt that it will happen now this late in his career. I figure the main obstacle was and remains, can he handle the defensive workload?

I think if any of the current three quaters are going to play much five eighth next year then it will be Tahu who we all know is a very robust defender.
  • burt could handle any backline position , i think of burt as another paul taylor . He is an assett to the eels and a much needed point scorer , I still think grothe if he gets a run will come off the bench as a backline replacement or to give the forwards a rest
  • No point. Then we'd have Robbo, KKeating or Humble not playing in place of a winger. Burt would fail anyway.
  • While I have no doubt that Burty has the skill to play the position, I don't think it would be of any benefit so late in his career. I would think that Burty has maybe another 2 years left - it would do nothing for stability or for the future to place him there, especially when his performances in his own position are just so fantastic!
  • to be honest, i think its a great idea, because i really do not know wat ando will do with out backline and i think thats a great idea and burty can handle anything the way hes going, solid defence and he is a great ball player and is very slippery to tackle, i think he wood be a good 5/8, with a role to run the line.

But then again it wont happen becuase then that means we just resigned robson for no reason
    • i believe a lot of people thought darren lockyer from fullback to 5/8 was "bollocks " also noknob
