Losing faith

I've followed the eels for over 20 years. Unlike some here I can't remember the times we dominated. I watch my beloved eels week in and week out and after nearly 10 years of hapless performances I starting to lose faith. I now watch my eels with a sense of hope rather than confidence and it takes us to be leading by over 24 points to feel we can win. I don't often post here and I haven't for a while as I don't want to be negative but every game we lose through what seems like apathy bit only makes me angry but makes me question why I even bother watching... Sorry if this is not a blog that won't end up in trash but I am just done.........

  • I hear you. After the Titans game I declared to my wife and mates that " I'm done with the Eels" but they knew I was full of $hit, I sat on the hill of the SCG as a school boy in 1981 when we won our first GF and since then they are ingrained. The last 5 seasons and now looks like this one has just been a real downer. ATM I am losing faith
  • Stay the course BB.  I remember the 80's well, AND the dark days that preceded them.  We've been in an extended trough due to piss poor management of the club ( both football and Leagues) but that is changing.  Too slowly, I agree, but it is changing.

  • I'm glad and sad that people agree. What I don't get is that each week as a supporter when we lose like we did tonight I get frustrated and it takes the week to say well screw it we can win next week. How are we as fans fired up and not the ayers
    • Yeah tell me about it... tonight I was watching the game at an RSL, surrounded by drunks cheering on the Broncos. I was sitting there fantasizing about what it would be like to crack 1st grade and the honor of being able to represent a great club like the Eels. To have a huge, passionate fan base and get paid good money to train and play footy.

All they have is one game a week. That's what everything builds up to. I watched the game tonight and it felt like half the team just didn't care or had already given up in their own mind. FFS - why wouldn't you give it all you've got?

The icing on the cake was the last play of the game. Yes, we couldn't win - but Joseph Paulo just ran the ball up, turned his back and fell into the tackle. What the eff, why did he just give up and take the tackle, not to mention the fact that he's never run hard and straight at the line in his life.

Watch the Eels V Broncos highlights at Suncorp 2008. Eels are on top, after 80 minutes. Lockyer makes a gig after the siren, winger chases 30m or so, beats Grothe Jr. and scores a try.... to win the game. Yeah we couldn't win today, but why give up?

    • Dammit I'd only just forgotten that lol
  • I love watching League. I'll just be watching other teams and not hold my breath for us. Looks like another spoon this year

  • I keep telling myself this pain will make a premiership even sweeter. Starting to wonder if the pain will ever end !!! Where is the light at the end of the tunnel?

"Some players need to get sacked from a club and risk losing it all before they really knuckle down and put in the work.  Why did he get sacked, was it lack of discipline for footy and training or off field issues?"
