Looks can be deceiving

SlaterThurstonLockyerSmithElmasriHodgsonBowenBurtLangerLambWalters *3These players are all small and don’t really fit the mould of a 1st grader or in some cases champions. But they were all terrific players, Parra should introduce a weight/age/ skill junior comp to nurture and develop these little quick style players before their love of the game gets squashed out of them. By the time they are late teens and the big kids and the speedy little kids are all back together I think we would have a much more diverse talent pool to pick from. Can anyone name a 1 to 17 of great players who were not the stereotypical footy player

  • Weight for age does not incentivise youth to evolve and improve as players.

Weight for age should only supplement the main competition we have now but shouldnt be the premier form of youth comeptition.
  • I agree supplementary, keep as many kids playing as possible, perhaps to help learn how to play properly, develop the physical side, help the mental side as they can just play, better than losing them to touch.
  • Welcome aboard Pat.

Gotta be a real gun to survive in the NRL and be small these days, ive a huge respect for the smaller guys but id be going for size across the park.

Games a very different game these days.

  • Weight for age worked for the current NSW halfback. Otherwise it's possible the giant kiwi kids he'd have come up against whilst living in NZ would have have ruined him.
  • What’s the one thing all these guys have in common? They’re all such natural footy players.
