      • If he doesn't come this season I'm less excited about this. Still needs to happen for the right money, but we need him now.

  • "Zac Lomax has been given permission to leave St George-Illawarra.

The Dragons have confirmed that their highest-paid player can negotiate with rival clubs, allowing him to exit at the end of this season.

Lomax still has two years remaining on his contract, which under NRL rules doesn’t allow him to negotiate with rival clubs until November 1.

However, the Dragons have opted to give permission to the disgruntled outside back to begin speaking with rival clubs with immediate effect and in order to give him time to find a club for the 2025 season.

In return, the Dragons will also use the remainder of the season to find a big-money replacement.

The Eels have made no secret of their interest in securing the $800,000 local junior."

    • The club said last year they were after an X factor player, that has left plenty of time to source TPAs and other incentives to entice a player of that caliber.

Lomax wants out, we're interested there's no reason why we shouldn't land him .

A well managed club would have him on the books for a steal, the player would be topped up elsewhere forgoing some of the contract  payable by the Dragons making everyone a winner.

      • the dragons are releasing lomax from his contract at his request so the previous amount is irrelevant i believe

    • Interesting development. From Fox

"Disgruntled Dragons star Zac Lomax will depart the club at the end of the season."

"The outside back’s contracted years for 2025 and 2026 will be terminated with no financial contribution from the club for those years."

"On Tuesday afternoon, the Dragons released a statement confirming the club had reached an agreement with Lomax and his management."

You'd think as a whinger/centre it would be difficult for Lomax to get a matching "NRL contract" at the 800K or whatever he was on from an NRL club.

So, makes me speculate he might be doing this for the right reasons, maybe? Is he prepared to potentially take a pay cut to play for a team and position he's happier in? Or is there something else going on behind the scenes?

Maybe, he and his manager are counting on top ups via TPAs and/or other more creative means that don't involve a much hard copy paperwork submitted to the NRL for review and approval. TPAs are a farce imo. As if an businessman will invest money in a player without any emotional attachment to a club. If so, it means they probably have already have something lined up and talks and agreements of sorts with other suitors have most likely happened before Tuesday's agreement.

      • HOE, absolutely has to be doing this for the right reasons, or, at least not for financial reasons.

He could earn 1.6mil guaranteed by staying at the Dragons, and would know he won’t be offered that in this next contract from any club.

        It’s definitely a pay-cut, officially anyway.

As Bup said, we’ve been on the look out for this exact situation for a while now, so we should be ready.

We aren’t in a position to let such an opportunity go, imo.
  • Be great to get him this year for the goal kicking alone.

    • Really, did you watch his kicking this weekend.

  • Does suggest though that nothing has been sorted out yet. I mean if it was a done deal surely he wouldn't have played on the weekend. Also nothing to say he is coming to us.

    • Eels have been targeting him the most and have the cap space for him, most likely will be an eels either this season or 2025. And probably our future Flb
