Let's Get Fair Dinkum!

Who didn't expect to get beaten tonight? North Queensland were at full strength! Full strength! Wouldn't the scores be reversed with Parra at full strength and if the Cowboys were without about seven players including Thurston and Morgan. Think about it. Really think about it.We have close to the worst injury toll in the competition. We have key players missing or key positions not covered. Don't blame the coach for injuries. Don't blame the coach for Sandow. Every coach that Sandow has ever had has dropped him at some stage. He made his own bed and ultimately ours (bear in mind I was a fan of his). Our halves. I know that Henry had a shocker for Wenty on the weekend. That's at NSW Cup level. That doesn't help the cause now. He hasn't put his hand up to come into any consideration to be selected (even if he could be made eligible). Our halves tonight - it's best if nothing was said by me right now. I won't publicly state my feelings on them. Nonetheless, our situation of player availability leaves little choice. Our forwards - looked distressed all night. The Nth Queensland conditions really seemed to impact them. We really missed the commitment and heart of Wicks and Choc. Big time. A couple of blokes really disappointed but look at the options in the Wenty pack. They were all RM Cup players yesterday with the exception of Nelson (and yes I would play him) but he's the lone NSW Cup player available. The pack and bench for Wenty were all RM Cup. Yes people, that's how bad the forward injury toll was this weekend.Furthermore, don't ignore the role that Norman plays in our team. In the halves he runs the attack. At fullback he organises the defence. He is a leader. Choc is a leader. Wicks is the new heart. They are big losses to our leadership in one fell swoop. We looked rudderless tonight and little wonder. Those losses aren't remedied in one week. There is no quick fix to this scenario. It is what it is and no club could cover these losses. Penrith are crying injuries too but their fullback and winger are the only major losses. Are they winning? They just had a cricket score put on them by a Storm team missing Slater. The club had a plan in place for this year. We've been dealt a rough hand. The club has recruited important positions next year that are necessary. If we hadn't recruited a half or a fullback, we could moan. But we have recruited and it will be better. As for the rest of this year, let's be real. We will be up against it, not because we have a poor roster, but because we have exhausted our roster. I'm still going to cheer them on and live in hope. But I'm not going to lose touch with reality.

  • I should add that we also know that blokes are, and have been, playing busted so that we can field a team. It's been a shocker.
    • It's no surprise the leading teams are where they are on the ladder due to cohesion in key positions due to lack of injurys. The dragons led the comp untill injurys surfaced, penrith are where they are because of injurys and we are suffering the same fate albeit with a shortened squad with the threat of docked points hanging over our head. The constant debate about team lists when our dire situation in player availability has been explained ad nauseum is moronic. A team that stays healthy and able to work on combinations without ongoing injurys and suspension will always be at the pointy end of the comp. Two years in a row we've copped all sorts of upheaval , surely third time lucky.
    • Look how well Souths we're going at the start of the year. Bookies had up a price to go undefeated for the year, then bang they lose Reynolds and lost a heap of games. He's back now and the rabbits are making a charge. Your dead right about the Broncs fathead.
  • You need a hug Sixties?
  • Totally agree

  • Great fair dinkum blog Sixties. I am still crying but can see clearly now.

  • So many people miss the point sixties. How can a team who has so many players either missing or playing out of position still be expected to execute the same attack and defensive structures that were out in place for the 1sts teams.
our best player from last season left. Our 5/8 and now best player had to go to fb to cover. Then he gets injured.

We basically didnt have a spine for most of the year.
  • I applied my life's motto to this game,"hope for the best but expect the worst" and I was not disappointed.I predicted a 200 point thrashing and I didn't get that.So I'm easy with tonight's loss.It was quite amusing watching our blokes run into each other instead of tackling the opposition. Our defence out wide was hilarious,it was as though they had 3 extra players out wide to pass to.I had a comp going with my sister as to the final score,I predicted 54 - 4,the silly Thurston loving cow beat me at that as well.Lighten up people,it is only a game.Just go with the flow and adopt the Eel's fan motto..."Next year"...sigh.

    • Our halves and fullback are the key organisational people. Look at tonight.
Those 3 will be different next year.
  • Agree 60's but because we showed some ticker for around 60 odd minutes they led us to dare to dream but in the usual parramatta way they ripped our heart out and all of a sudden we had copped a cricket score. The logical answer is we simply have too many reserve graders playing against mainly international and or state of origin players so it is expected but the false hope let us astray...
A side can handle an odd reserve grader here and there but not the extent that we currently have. A big difference between a first grader and reserve grader is being able to mentally and physically stay switched on for 80 minutes let alone do it week in week out. It's going to be a long 6 weeks and I really hope we don't get the spoon, I don't think the players and coaching staff deserve that but it will take an almighty effort to get the necessary wins required now...
