Is an 8 week suspension for Leniu harsh or acceptable for calling Mam a Monkey? I personally think it's a bit extreme. No disrespect to Mam and I'm aware that Leniu isn't the most model player but 8 weeks is a long time for saying someone is a monkey 🐒🐵

I hate racism, and I had to deal with it alot through primary school and high school.
It should not be accepted at all and he's lucky with just an 8 match suspension...
NRL has to suspend him big time. Fans get banned for life if they racially abuse players at games. So the NRL cannot set double standards and let players get away with a small punishment.
I think it's all a bit silly tbh . I think Mam has been a little bit of a bitch about it . Could've been settled like men with a chat and an apology. But old mate has now put himself out there as the narc of the NRL who will always be under the microscope to ensure he's of perfect character. If it's true he was sledging old mate first then he's really going to be judged by his peers .
On the other hand I also am torn as methinks Lenu thoght he had a get out of jail free card due to his colour , and he was trialed and sentenced the same as if it were a white player.
So at least the NRL were practising what they preach with equal treatment . I thiought he'd get a slap on the wrist .
I did not like that Mam declined an apology from Leniu when he was willing to fly to Brisbane and see him personally. Even with the reports that Mam was giving it to Penrith in the GF with racial slurs. I understand you can be very hurt from an incident but Leniu at least showed some sincere remorse willing to travel to Brisbane.

My only issue is that Leinu only started showing remorse after things were looking bad for him. After the game he showed what he really thought about it. I looked at him wanting to apologise in person as just pr and trying to paint him in a better light to try and get a better sentencing.
I wonder what will happen when a referee or a player calls someone the wrong pronoun ?
