Yes I really hope he goes well.
I'm thinking he might be on limited minutes to adjust to the NRL but like all Eel Debutants we wish them the best.
It looks like it might be good weather for an Englishman.
When I first heard we were going after (or had signed) Mossop, I watched as much as I could of him in the Super League. I was fairly impressed. Mossop is certainly a big body, defends well, has a decent workrate and runs the ball strongly enough. Sadly though, I was more impressed at the time with his English Paul and resident head case Gareth Hock. He would have been really good for us, if he wasn't crazy!? besides, he's not coming and we have Manu Ma'u. I'm happy.
With Mossop though, the bits I saw of him tailed off. I know he had that shoulder complaint which really limited his time and efforts in the 2013 World Cup. I watched him for Wenty a couple of weeks ago too. I was a bit ambivalent on him then. He was ok, but not fantastic. I put it down to coming off injury, adjusting to new teammates and the game in Australia. I was super excited about this bloke when we signed him. Now not so much.
Mossop really needs to stand up and show Parra they made the right choice. He's a good defender and he needs to show that. His workrate, as I said is good, but even in the ESL, I noticed he would often play the decoy forward or stand back and wait to be given the ball. Mossop MUST be more proactive over here and demand the ball and hit it up strongly. His workrate with ball must improve.
I hope Mossop shows me that my initial excitement was well-placed.
All the doubters take notice tonight, because the moose is a class act. He has an excellent work rate and a nice offload, and I'm also sure the cold pommie weather will suit the moose tonight.
When is Hock coming?
hopefully the moose will roar tonight. Looking forward to see how he goes, it may take a few games to see his best but he should show some quality as he is an international.
