Bevan Paul must be given a mandate to put the club back on its feet

I’ve been saying for a long time that Bevan Paul needed to be installed as a group CEO and now it’s simply a must for the club to go that route now.

Paul is probably the only executive across both businesses in a very long time, who has a track record of success. These including guiding the club through the membership tampering affair, turning in some excellent financial results despite the blowout in football expenses and also seemingly leading our major development forward without any major hiccups.

Quite frankly, as soon as the salary cap affair broke, he should have been put in charge, and I don’t think we would have gotten anywhere near this point. Having worked with club regulators for so long, there is no way he would have taken the combative approach to working with the NRL or risked not being forthcoming with the NRL.

Unfortunately, the NRL has now left a void and there is no clear way forward to filling it. There are so many questions left unanswered as to what happens to the rest of the board, who must accept responsibility for, at the very least, the way the board handled its dealings with the NRL and its unwavering proclamation of innocence.

Those who still hold the reins, need to be absolutely objective and do the right thing by the club. Right now, the club needs a fresh start. It needs clear air to work out the right way forward. We don’t need the board to fight . We don’t need the board to believe they can somehow save the day themselves. They have had every chance, prior to this point in time. We need to move forward, and we need to do so without the baggage of people trying to protect their positions or their own interests.

  • The first think Bevan Paul needs to do is resign the coach. Our team is going to be cherry picked. Moving on $570k of players is really more than $1m of players as the teams picking them up will only pay some of their wage. We need to stabilise the football dept. it's the most important part of all of this.
  • you are kidding are you not Phil. Bevan Paul will be shortly following in the footsteps of Sharp and co for his part in all this including the inflated contracts from suppliers etc. Also for his part in increasing the Directors honorariums without the members knowledge!!

i agree with you on a lot of fronts but your way off on your assessment of Bevan Paul.... that i can assure you!

Just like the truth eventually came out about Sharp's lies you will soon find out more about our friend Paul..  or was that Bevan?

    • I've not heard any of this. All of the inflated contracts I've even heard remotely mentioned, have been in relation to the football organisation.

    • Ive not heard any of that Gary, why didnt the NRL stand him down if what your saying is true?

    • Bevan Paul ... Hmm Never trust a bloke with two first names hey Christie .
  • Aren't they been investigated for something too 1eyed..
Although that was according to Hadley
  • It is fact Phil and the department of gaming and racing are looking into it as we speak.

Apparently they got suppliers to inflate invoices to the leagues club so the suppliers could then give back the money as 3rd party directly to players.

    • Todd Greenburg mentioned it in the press conference!

      • I think you're mistaken. I think that was referring to Football department contracts. Happy to be proven that I misheard but I don't think so.

        • No Phil, it was right across the group.
