I think Bernie Gurr did a great job and always felt that he maybe he had designs on the NRL CEO's job, not sure of the politics there post Villandys and Abdo.

He would have made a great one IMO. I know Fong didn't have much time for him and he would know better than me, that said Frankie is not renowned for his objectivity........

What I have seen via TCT interviews etc is that he seems to be pretty died in the wool Parra supporter  and follows them with great intent. He potentially is the only Parramatta power broker I can see emerging on a better run NRL.

An interesting aside is that a lot of talk happens on here about "leadership" in general and I think someone has to grasp the "nettle" with the obvious things wrong with Rugby League which is the judiciary system from the top down to the standard of referreeing.

Nobody like's the dominance of the Uncle Nick syndromes but that is an evolving thing and is a stage of management that Parra will be facing over the next 5 years,, but the real issue and discussion point is the NRL Admin in those areas mentioned. The book keeeping and corporate direction is now handled well by Villandy's but he needs to keep his nose out of the functional playing matters and get someone in there to run it like it needs to be........

i.e. stop worrying about political correctness, racial vilification is well addressed and things like the indigeouness and womens function have all been overdone and can be just managed......back from the current over mangement.

NOW GET THE GAME RIGHT AT OFFICIATING LEVEL.

Token appeals systems and blindly agreeing with decisons that are obviously wrong need to be addressed and eliminated.......justice does not have to be addressed by Lawyers and Judges, they fuck up enough in their own fields, why let them get involved with NRL playing matters.

We need some commonsense judgements or the game will end up with a complete no confidence vote.

I watched a game last week (not Parra) where a referee decided the result with numerous errors for both sides, evening out is not good enough, it was Klein our top ref and his mistakes need to be accountable in a redress system away from protecting them from there own mistakes and making them owned!

The Matterson affair is well known but incompetently handled in the shade of the GF. Other's is constant inconsistencies in the judiciary between suspensions. Does the NRL really want an appeals system to be encouraged by an early plea with the result being getting it wrong on appeal. Quiet simply an appeal can be made on grounds and the judiciary maintains its initial position or allows an appeal to be heard independantly. There is no need to bring them in when the evidence is in front of you. The MRC is a joke when you have morons like Patten on there and he is sacked from the bunker and promoted to the MRC.....we can do better with grandmothers of past players. My wife is a grandmother and she has more understanding of right and wrong than the MRC.

  • Nice blog, you are right. Gurr did do a very good job. Granted compared to who he took over from it was not difficult to be better, but the job he took on was extremely difficult and he got us on the right track.

  • Gurr has basically set Parra up only those after him can screw this up.There in a new stadium they have the centre of excellence there paid memberships have  increased every year.I'd also say most of the reputational damage has gone a long way to being repaired.

Parra just have to nail the on the field to put the cherry on top.

  • I think Burnie Gurr has set us on the correct path as a club, finally. Just like he began moving  Easts onto the right direction and look at them corporately now.

As far as lawyers and the like at Judiciaries they are very much required. The professionalism and the adherence to the rules and law get washed away when lesser types attempt the man in the street verdicts at Judiciaries. Once upon a time that was called a Kangaroo Court.

I'm afraid its some of the rules that are not written correctly, allowing interpretations to manifest. Write the correct rules that are easy to understand and easy to apply, would be my suggestion. Further im a big believer in the injury or degree of injury thats occured  from foul play should also come into it, and play a factor in determining penalty.

    • Sorry BE, if you think our judicial system is fair and just...... and I am talking in general life.....you are way out.

You are talking the ideal, I am talking the reality.........and yes you named it the current system in Rugby League Terms as a Kangeroo court.....no truer words spoken.......  i would happily let you sit on it (the judiciary) you would have a better understanding than the nimrods we currently have.

Remember what I have always said, the best form of management is benevolent dictatarship, you just have to get the right one/s.

Sluggy and me will do it and you will never have a complaint......we have ways of dealing with idealists......further good news, we will both be dead within 10 years with no options!

PS We would do what Ken Thornett would do, which means you better throw Parra Tragic in there as well, he lives inside the mayor's head. PS2 The mayor is never wrong, the closest thing to God this planet has left........ LOL

      • NSW judicial system or NRL judicial system pops. which are we talking about. Not sure where i said it was fair. sorry mate.

  • Bernie got a pass mark, he had his shortcomings.  Did what an expensive gun for hire does. Let's not put him on a pedestal now just because times are seemingly bleak and we are looking for where it went wrong.

    • Don't like handing over money Wiz ?, hows that cheap, lousy mud filled swimming hole going? Don't get me wrong I am sure it will get a passmark not withstanding its shortcomings.

  • Excellent blog Poppa .  Spot on with all points raised.  I think we will see again tonite how Parramatta gets shafted by the nrl , refereeing and luck in general. Hope luck , good fortune blah blah don't come into tonight's result .  But we seriously need everything to go our way to get past the Klein factor.

    • Paul. You appear to be a balanced poster. Don't  go for the excuse mode. We simply have to be coached to be the dominant animal. Then nobody fucks with you.
