Ky Rodwell has been released from the final year of his contract to join Wakefield Trinity in the Champsionship. After 5 games for the club between 2021 and 2022, with Ky the best of luck. Did not quite workout since the type of player he is suits the game more in the early 2000's as that workhorse. We have enough of them in the team. In 2023 he started the first trial on route to getting a bench spot, then he and Ogden had shocking games, leading to Makatoa and Greig both getting spots over them. Even TCT predicted he would be in the 17 for round 1 with the amount of first team reps he was getting.

That's 2 players released in 2 weeks, surely the club is freeing up salary cap space to make a play at an outisde back.
With Talagi put in at Centre, surely he is the future, therefore go for a Winger. Uncle Toby's Oates should be looked at for that Wing spot.
I don't think Oates at 30 or whatever is better than either of the wing options we have now in Sivo and Russell. Just my opinion
I respectfully disagree. I think Oates offers more than Russell. Carries alone he makes more metres and is a try scoring freak.
Only issue is Oates is a left side Winger and will play right side for us.
I could be wrong Michael and glad you mentioned your opinion. I could be wrong as i was one who said Hodgson signing was a decent idea.
Oates is really no better than what we currently have.
Lomax, if we could land him would be far better.

Really, BEM? I see different. Only for 2-3 years but i just feel Oates has big plays in him compared to what we have. Oates at times can come up with that moment out of nowhere.
He is good under the high ball but offers very little running the ball backhand isn't overly quick.
He is on par with Sivo in those areas but Sivo has a better try scoring strike rate.
He really wouldn't offer us anything we don't already have and his heart will always be in Qld.
He averages more metres than Sivo to be fair. Only thing that is poor is attitude and he can be hot and cold with tries as you say. But i think his big game efforts are better than most of our backs other than Gutho. But respect your opinion BEM as i can see both sides. He is not the greatest option but what is currently available or realistic he is one of the better options.
But then again i am not disheartened not to get him. But if he is adament staying in QLD he ain't going to be playing FG anytime soon.
In all honesty LB I wouldn't be overly disappointed in signing Oates. I just want us to aim higher and get what's best for the club.
I think that is a fair thought process BEM. I agree we can do better but if Oates is best available and need one ASAP we can definately do worse.
