Kris Keating greedy with the ball

K.Keating needs to learn to offload,he sees gaps but just doesn't realise he's not quick enough to get through the hole.Other teams have problems with their halves not taking the line on he has the opposite problem of not passing when he should or just kicking to ineffective places. He has great speedsters outside him and should draw in defenders for the offload but tends to try and take them on himself.I find myself screaming at the telly for him to pass and more often than not reach for the remote to throw it at the telly.I really like the kid but unless he's built like Fui and can run like Hayne than pass the friggin ball!

  • No doubt on mortimers skill just mentioning other halves in other teams,i should have been more specific in regards to our number 6 on the blog.but agree Mortimer was very solid especially in regards to defensive tackle count.
  • Kris Keating and Mortimer are two similar players, they are both essentially ball runners who we can afford to play in the same team because of one J Hayne.

If you are looking for Keating to have great footy 'nous' and peripheral vision then forget about it - he doesn't.

In fact the Keating brothers seem tied with the same brush in this respect but in my opinion Kris makes up for it with an ability to poke his body through the line with pace off the mark.

He compliments a team with Hayne in it well, but with Hayne gone his limitations are there for all to see.
  • By the way if Feleti Mateo isn't our best "5/8" option outside of Hayne then I am a dutchmen.
    • Off to Amsterdam you go Michael.

Mate Ando was on NRL Tactics during the week and when asked about the temptation to move Feliti to 6, Ando was quite assuring that he is much more suited as a back rower. Not just due to physical presence, though because atm he is TOO FUCKING FAT and unfit to play 80 minutes, and if you play him at 6 from the start than he has to come off and that changes the whole stucture of the team.

Feliti isn't going to be with us next year, KK will be. Thus KK will be our 6 next year, Feliti will not. Why not play KK here this year and get a whole year of Morts KK together continuing to gel, when they are going to have to be together there next season anyway.

Sure Feliti is creative with the ball, but he can (is) do that out wide as a fringe back rower where not only can he get the ball out to our centres, he also has the opton of using his size to take on the opposition centres.

      GIVE IT UP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!
      • I am going to Amsterdam later in the year but I am still not a dutchmen (that I know about).

I am not talking about moving Mateo into the 6 jersey,as much as Hayne doensn't play in the 6 jersey but he HAS to play a lot more second receiver in the opposition danger zone without Hayne there.
  • Have you seen the tries he's set up this season using his pace to get through half-gaps and pop a pass on the other side?

I reckon he's been one of our best all season. Definitely has added a spark to our game since starting.
  • Tarred with the same brush I think it is. Yeah look you take the best player out of any side they will be impacted. I think tonight though had a lot to do with having played on monday too.
  • He's a ball hog. He bombs as many scoring opportunities as he creates.
  • because he didnt play last week
  • KK's major problem - experience or lack thereof.

After time off with injury he came back playing the same sort of game he started the year with.
He rushed himself way too much.

The opposition know when he is going to take on the line because he locks the ball under his arm like a front rower and goes hard- which you have pointed out he did too often.
When he is going to let the ball out along the line he holds it in front of him.
Way too easy to read his plays.

I got the feeling last night he was actually competeing with Mortimer.
Morts had a brilliant game and maintained far more control of our attack and KK looked like he was competeing for recognition as "THE" playmaker.
It appeared as if he intended to single handedly set up a try or score himself almost every time he touched the ball.

I have said before on this site - with time I think Mortimer and KK "COULD" become the halves combination of the decade but it is still very early days and they are both on a steep learning curve atm.
