Knights sign Brian Canavan - Eels sign Mark O'Neill.

I don't know much about Mark O'Neill (former Tigers player) vocational credentials so I am not going to bag the bloke, other than saying he is inexperienced and not what our clubs needs in its current predicament IMO.

The Knights recently appointed Brian Canarvan as their Director of football.

    What did he achieve at the NRL? The NRL is regarded as the most unprofessional and inept sporting organisation in the country. He left the Roosters before they reached this new era of dominance they are now enjoying. The results he delivered at the Roosters were quite sporadic. Sure better than us but I'm not filthy we didn't get him ahead of the Knights.

Didn't canavan work with Gurr at roosters yet when Gurr joined eels we were told he only succeeded at roosters cause uncle nick was involved.
Why is Canavan a better option then what we got with Gurr who regularly bagged by many on here?
I'm not sure what their roles were at roosters, if they worked together or 1 took over from the other.

  But canavan made his name under politis as well. Fair enough he had other roles but weren't they with NRL HQ which isn't exactly a well run business, and probably on par with stupid and shortsighted decisions we have witnessed at the eels.

  I suppose what I'm getting at is any individual can look good look amongst a strong team as we see with players, it also applies at managment, board and coaching levels.
  The fact Gurr and Donnelly haven't allowed extra specialised staff to run departments is huge error of judgement that they can be called on. But as they were appointed by administration they would have been guided by set goals which probably didn't include on field success but more governance and financial targets.
  I wouldn't judge Canavan or O"Neill till I see support given to them and extra staff put in place at various levels and departments.
  A great talent scout and mental mind coach can turn club around short term with handful of good calls and improvements regardless of who is in CEO of footy manager role

FM your point is well made but the coach still needs to have the cattle to achieve.
