Knights and Cowboys fighting over Sandon Smith

A bidding war has broken out between the Knights and Cowboys for the services of Sandon Smith. Knights have offered a 4 year deal and Cowboys a 3 year 1.3 million dollar deal. Most of us wanted the club to join in on this (me included) but Ryles has backed Joash and once again seems to be on the money with his assessment. Guess we'll just have to start trusting his judgement on these things 😂

  • The Knights make some very strange plays. Sign DB on ridiculous money then get in a bidding war for another 5/8.

Sandon looks like everything you'd want in a 5/8, yet the Roosters don't want him, even though he's not on big coin. Ryles wasn't interested at all. Maybe they know something we don't.

I'm now at the point where Joash has showed enough to warrant going with him next year. He's a good player and should only improve.

Good Luck to Sandon, I hope whoever lands him have to pay overs.

    • Knights I believe want him to play 9 and Cowboys want him at 6, maybe clubs view him as a utility and not solid at either spot but he seems like a decent enough player imo. My guess is he goes cowboys to play halves more money in that for long run

  • I thought they'd throw Crossland in at Hooker but there talking Smith at hooker and the mentioned to 13.

Crosslands under rated that dude basically covers your spine. There probably thinking of using him. Like we use Walker at 1st reciever that will allow Brown and the young fulla to play wider and let KP pick his spots on the edge and trailing fowards through the middle.

  • I said it from mid year that everyone was losing their minds about not getting Sandon Smith and im thinking "Ummmm he is playing NSW Cup, Hugo Savala is over him and ZDC is at 14 over him, then Ioelu was too".

Newcastle and NQ want him to play Hooker. I would not 100% say Ryles has settled on Papali'i, if a 5/8 he wants is available he will go for them but giving Papali'i minutes at 5/8 for now is great incase we need to play there.

Off topic, RCG could be on the move with Titans wanting to free up cap. St. Helens is the likely destination. But i thought we were stupid to get rid of our reigning player of the year?

    • With what Joash has shown I'm ok heading into next season with him at 6, as long as they use money to strengthen other parts of the squad. If they just do nothing at all and don't use the cap space that's a failure

    • Ryles saw that both RCG and Gutho only had maybe 1-2 years left in them and showed them the door. Tough business call but had to be done. Great in their time at Parra but have to keep moving

      • I said that from start that it was right call for both Gutho and RCG and seems to be proven right for Ryles.

    • He made big calls fully knowing down the track if it failed he goes out on his own terms not dictated to by someone else's.JR so far around those decisions has proven to be correct.
