KK for City Team.

THE City slickers face a play-making crisis ahead of next Friday's annual State of Origin selection trial, with no experienced halfbacks fit to play and captain Robbie Farah tipped to be unavailable because of Kangaroos duty.In the absence of injured duo Mitchell Pearce (shoulder) and Peter Wallace (knee), the only remaining halfback candidates are tyros Kris Keating and Trent Hodkinson. The 21-year-olds have only just risen through the junior ranks at Cabramatta together but, with just 38 NRL appearances between them, they are now joint favourites for a shock representative call-up opposite formidable Country pair Todd Carney and Brett Kimmorley.City's chairman of selectors John Hayes was still coming to grips with the shortage when we contacted him yesterday."That's caught us out a bit, so we will have to have a good look and come up with something," Hayes said.Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar."Both [Keating] and [Hodkinson] are on our list, and there's one other [Scott Porter] who is not playing first grade."

  • Hmmmm does that mean he would miss out on playing for the eels?
  • and he really isn't a halfback...
  • Turn it up, little KK is flat out making to parra first 13, let alone being a rep halfback....

Sorry boys but we will call little KK Steven Bradbury if he makes a rep team anytime soon
    • oh so true
  • KK doesnt deserve the spot, but based on the amount of injuries going aroud he may get a shot - there are a LOT of players out!

In saying that, i'd think even Hodkinson would be picked before him - guess it comes down to this weekends games. The team is picked Sunday arvo, so if KK has a blinder on friday night he may play himself into a jersey

Wont impact Parra thought as we have the bye next weekend when the game is on
  • geese give him a shot. if he goes good would do wonders for his confidence.

im kinda annoyed at the shock that kk would be an option from selectors, and so far down the list of options. not because i think he should be a pick, but because parra always have such shit halves recognition than other teams in the comp.

Y cnt we have an awesome accomplished halve that is admired by the league! that we know can get us a premiership! Damn lol

still we got great potential halves, there playing ok at the moment. I assume DM is a country rep? therefore not in consideration...
If he had continued his form from last year into this year i would have put him in country or city selection? whichever one he is
  • KK has been exceptional at all levels of junior rep footy. While playing in the halves for the city rep squad would seem a bit premature, why wouldn't we want him there ? I reckon he's a shoe-in to play rep footy at some stage, so it'd be good to see how he goes.

I don't know why there is so much doubt to his abilities and general bashing when we have seen so little of him so far. What are people expecting from him at this stage of his career ?
    • im not bashing him in any way

He is a great talent im sure he'll have a successful career, hopefully for the eels

But damn straight, if on form (2 decent games this year) KK deserves a City jersey, then we may as well be pushing Morts into the NSW 7 jersey

They are great boys, but both a long way off the consistency required for rep footy.

Its simple, if they play and are shown up - it will DESTROY their confidence! Which is the last thing we need!
    • Oh Fui Fui would you please stop talking sense! :-P There is no room for sense when we are talking about the Keatings!

The reality, is that people tend to and continue to equate our poor form last year with KK and our miraculous turn around to his injury. This, as I have explained before is purely coincidental, and if people actually watched the games, they would see how much improvement our team has undergone in 2 weeks, partly because of the form of KK.

Eels_Brad, I do see your point too, but it looks like City has very few options. It will be interesting to see what they do though as KK is not really a halfback.
    • Actually, parrafanatic, you would be surprised at how many people equate our winning form last year with KK being dropped. Read posts regarding KK from 3 weeks ago and you will see what I am talking about.

I was more responding to the posts in here that suggest that KK struggles to even make our starting like up as opposed to debating whether he should be included in the City Side. :-) As I said, City appear to have very few options at the moment and his selection wouldn't be based on merit as much as necessity.
