Kicking for touch

Surely by now we should realise that Haynsey has the better boot for penalties when kicking for touch - wasn't it the Canberra match where the commentators were in awe when he kicked from deep within our own half to put us on their 10 metre line.

KK has botched this more times than i care to remember. give our lads a chance and take advantage of the penalty IMO.

  • get your facts checked champ, against canberra it was mortimer who didnt find touch, and then it was kk on the weekend who missed. They would have both learned from their mistakes.
  • Hey Charlie, i didnt say it was KK against Canberra, i said it was Hayne who held the commentators in awe, i did say however that KK has botched more times than i care to recall.
    • Charlie meant that KK botched in once against Canberra and DM botched it once against Souths. So, from that stat we learn that KK has only failed to find touch once. This obviously contradicts your comment that KK has failed to find touch more than you care to remember!

Whilst I agree with you that Hayne has the bigger boot, that kick against the Raiders was made out of necessity as we had precious little time left to score twice. It's clearly a risk to bite off that much as was evidenced when Hayne failed to find touch on the second occasion he took the kick.
  • Hayne or Burt are both better kickers
  • Too true Johno, i just think Haynsy has greater length - his kicking for touch against Canberra was an awesome kick, he did that at the back of 09 a few times as well, even Gould couln't understand why isnt used more often......... definitely sent shivers down the raiders backs at the time.
  • BM, I suppose the general point im trying to convey is Hayne has a great boot on him and it would advance our attack by miles if we used his boot to gain the upper hand on their 10 - 15 m line. KK and Morts dont have the depth.
  • Yeah, but you can say that is why both KK and Morts missed touch. They bit off more than they could chew, and we desperately needed to get down the other end!

I don't think Eel4ever was singling any guy out, more so he was just saying the best kicker in the team should do the touch finding. I agree, the stronger kicker should do the touch finders, no ifs buts or maybes. We don't see anybody bar Soward do this for the Dragon's
    • Agreed. That's why they use Hayne or Burt for the drop-out.

I can only assume they don't use Hayne for the touch finders is to give him a mental break in those few moments the kick is being taken because he clearly is superior.
  • KK's depth is ok, Mortimers is terrible.

The problem is the trajectory of the kicks for mine, you will notice that when Hayne kicks the ball his foot goes round in much wider arch so that the ball travels flatter.

Mortimer kicks the ball closer to how you would approach kicking a bomb, more up and under.
    • Just give the ball to Burt or Hayne to kick, end of story.

Doueihi fits the bill as a signing, I love a big body 5/8.
