Kick to Lomax worked v chooks ?

Just watching back some of the game from the weekend, 3 of our tries came directly from the kick to Lomax and a few others became contests for the footy. My only real issue with the tactic is the amount of energy Lomax would be using to chase and contest from halfway where most of these bombs went up from. Eels are using it to make what would normally be a regulation kick from half way and easy catch into Lomax flying in and making it a battle. Actually incredible motor and effort wise the work of Lomax to do this over 80 mins

  • I'm surprised more teams don't do it. It's a no brainier. Even if he knocks it one it's still a better result than the winger catching and running it back. It stops the play and gets the defence set. Only thing is the toll it would take on lomax.

    • That would be the main issue with it, the energy it would take to do that repeatedly, also it can create chaos on the kick return if the other team catches it and the line isn't set. But attacking the rookie winger for roosters with it and Lomax flying in to pressure him was effective

  • this becomes to perdictable, you have to have variety to keep the other side second guessing themselves. Variety puts more pressure on the defense creating more oppertunity.

    • Yeah I'm not sure how many a game they can attempt from halfway like that, but Lomax has to dodge blockers like an obstacle course to get to the ball 😂 maybe 2-3 a game is the sweet spot from that distance

    • Dragons also used to do it with Lomax so it's probably something that he has brought across with him. Don't see many players attacking kicks from that distance

    • Exactly

I want to see more grubbers

  • Nothing wrong with the high kick on the 5th. We got to a GF in 1976 using it as our main tactic. In the GF Peard put up the first one to Manly fullback Eadie who just caught it in a jumping match with Price. Next one went up toward Manly winger Mooney,, who also just managed to catch it. Mossop in commentary said "they'll probably kick inbetween Eadie and Mooney next" .....and they did resulting in Jim Porter leading the jump to score.  Kick it to Lomax? Yes but maybe every 3rd kick instead of every kick. Vary the kicks to aim at the fullback, then the opposite winger, then one for Lomax inbetween his winger and fullback so one of them has to run to catch it rather than just standing under it waiting. That will give Lomax the best hance of catching it.

    • Some more kick targets would make this plan perfect, we need some 2nd rowers who can leap for the footy and maybe a centre. Right now it's just Lomax in the air
