Keeping Mateo

Now I am not suggesting for a minute that parramatta's recruitment dilemma is as simple as tossing up between keeping Mateo or keeping Krisnan Inu,

However I do know someone who is quite close to Paul Osborne and he tells me that parra, at the moment are more confident of keeping Inu than they are of keeping Mateo.

Now the question I ask is, would you release Inu in order to keep Mateo? I would say yes,

I am actually quite a fan of Inu and would have him  starting  at centre over Joel Reddy.

However, Mateo is a once in a while player for mine, Someone with that x factor who can take a game by the scruff of the neck and make it his own.

I wouldn't  be letting him go anywhere and if it meant we couldn't keep a few high profile players such as Inu, so be it.

  • Another one of these crap blogs. Reminder - Eels V Dragons next Friday at Parramatta Stadium. Kick off 7.30pm. Can't wait for that!!
  • It may not be that simple. Inu is willing to take a pay cut. Mateo is after an increase and is likely to get more offers from other clubs.
  • My bosses ex wifes' great grandmother has a friend who goes to a doctor who has a brother that works with Daniel anderson's cousins' best friend, and the other day they chatted and Daniel anderson said.........

    YOU'RE FULL OF SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Well said mate, can't beat that!!
  • I know its frustrating all this speculation about players going elsewhere, but the reality is that's where we're at, at the moment. There is a lot of wheeling and dealing taking place before the season starts so its natural this is going to come up especially given there is not actual footy to talk about.

I wrote a blog more than a month ago about how I would be signing Mateo before any player. We haven't seen the best from Feleti - if he actually ever manages to string together a couple of uninjured seasons he'll prove himself one of the best we've ever seen. I've not seen a player with his combination of size, strength and skills EVER.

However, the reality is we already have our marquee player in Hayne. The Bulldogs don't have that X factor player that will take them to a Premiership so they're going to be willing to pay for it. It would not surprise me in the least if they're offering over $400k+.

The Bulldogs also have the likes of Kimmorley, Ryan and Patten closing in on retirement, they'll be looking for their next-generation of leaders.

So this is where it's at. We know the Bulldogs want Feleti, they're going to have more money and more motivation to sign him. They may be promising five-eighth? If I were the Dogs I would be doing WHATEVER IT TAKES to get Mateo.

Parramatta on the other hand, would be looking over their should knowing Pat O'Hanlon, who players a pretty similar game to Feleti is coming through the ranks. And we already have Hayne as that X factor in our side. We just don't need Feleti as much as the Dogs do. (And it's worth noting that a number of the Eels players that Feleti was close to like Weller and Junior Paulo have moved on already).

I'll be gutted if we lose Feleti. My wife was teaching at Terra Sancta when he played at schooboy level a decade ago, so I've watched him rise right through the grades and I always believed he was destined for stardom from the first time I saw him play for Terra. I believe all things being equal his loyalty would keep him at the club but for all the above reasons, its not looking likely that it will be an even playing field. Let's just hope Ozzy and the club can pull something out of the fire!
  • Wow... Some people getting testy on here huh......

Let's see, Inu, a talented player when he has his head right and injury free, unfortunately, he is injury prone and rarely has his head right in the game. Eels have stuck with, paid him big dollars. Has he earnt it, no way.........
We have blown our dough on him i feel. He has lost his speed, he rarely makes a break, rarely throughs that "special" pass, misses crucial tackles, what does he do in a game that is soooo damn special...
Please tell me a game that "HE" won for us with a bit of INU MAGIC...

If the Dogs want to throw big money at him, good for them, let them blow their dough on an under achieving footballer

And Mateo, you know the Knights have plenty of money to offer, they need back rowers.... Maybe just Maybe
Mateo can win you a game. I like Mateo personally, i can see him having a real impact this season in our attack, setting up tries with those magic hands...
I hope EELS go all out to keep him
  • That's a really good point 1Eyed. I was thinking much the same thing about O'Hanlon. I've seen him play a few times and to be honest, I find him more impressive than Mateo when at the same stage. If Mateo is asking for $400k or thereabouts then it would not prove to be an economy of scale to re-sign him.
    • Economies of scale? Isn't that the term used for reduction in costs per unit through increasing efficiencies by increasing staff? Lol.

Good point though ohanlon could play a similiar role.
      • the more mateos we can produce, the cheaper they get per unit.
        • Nope still doesn't work.
