Keegan Hipgrave Retires

Announced today!

EE

Parramatta Eels forward Keegan Hipgrave has today announced his immediate retirement from rugby league.

Keegan and the Club sought extensive medical advice following a concussion late in the 2021 season. Based off this advice, Keegan made the difficult decision to retire which will see him end his playing contract with the Eels early.

Parramatta Eels General Manager of Football, Mark O’Neill said, “Keegan has been a wonderful addition to our Club and a very popular member of the team. While it’s a shame his career has prematurely come to an end due to injury, the health and wellbeing of our players is always our first priority”

“We wish Keegan and his partner Izzy all the best of luck with their future.”

Keegan made his NRL debut with the Titans in 2017, before joining the Eels prior to the start of the 2021 campaign.

The Club will continue to support Keegan in his transition into retirement from rugby league

  • Shame for him. He seemed a hard bugger. I wonder what happened?

    • His mother is my daughters water polo coach, spoke to her about him a couple of months ago .

The decision was already made then , he's currently involved in a study involving concussion at Sydney Uni I think she said.

He's completed a couple of degrees and invested wisely in real estate , the family's happy he's giving it away.

      • Thank you very much for that info Bup

      • Sounds like he has his head screwed on right.

        All the best to him.

        Scott

  • He had that bad concussion in the semi. Hope he is OK!

      • Why did you just repeat the original post?

  • Makes our back-row depth even more thinner, wonder if we will seek out another back-rower somewhere during pre-season.

    • Just had a look at his profile and shows he is only 24, a young age to have to give the game away through concussion.  Leaves a hole in the forward pack, but may release a bit of money to go towards signing players going forward.

There are 15 forwards on the team sheet, unless there are a lot of injuries and lose others should be ok methinks.
