Kearney Showing Players How It Used To Be

Parramatta Coach, Stephen Kearney has decided that next week every player in the first grade squad will be working on a Dyldam construction site. They will be working 9.00 a.m. - 3.30 p.m. and then training from 5.30 - 7.30 p.m. Kearney has decide to show the players who have pretty much played just League all their adult life what it was like before players were on big money. They won't be getting the easy jobs either. Kearney has instructed the site managers to work them as hard as the normal employees. It is a chance for these modern players to experience what it was like trying to play and work the same way guys like Price and Kenny etc. did in before the money became good enough to solely rely on Rugby League. This must be part of the Melbourne institution. Apparently Bellamy did a similar thing with his younger players. Before he blooded a youngster he would send them to work on a building site for a week and if they had the right attitude he would play them the following week. If this improves their attitude to hard work and realising how good they've got it, they may turn around next season and be prepared to finish what they start.

    • As proved by players like Inu, a huge portion of football is having the right attitude.  Sometimes you need to take people out of their comfort zone to realign their perceptions.

    • It didnt alter the focus of players such as Kenny. Ella, Price etc so why should it with these lads ?
  • As long as Hindy isn't building anything the time he went over to Rwanda he was useless at building
  • Says it in the article "Apparently Bellamy did a similar thing with his younger players. Before he blooded a youngster he would send them to work on a building site for a week and if they had the right attitude he would play them the following week"
  • Hope no stupid injuries come out of this .
  • Wizz..bloody long read champ....but a bit of off field "hard yakka "is just what these boys need...maybe our new sponsor.... is "King Gee".....
  • Yeah, players were better back than and could hold down a job as well.
  • Right on Slip....less time at the tab....more time on real work ethics.....
  • They probably got into as much trouble now if not more. It's all media exposure, if it weren't for camera phones a lot of players wouldn't be caught
  • Players were wilder back than, they just didn't have the media watching every move and do gooders screaming oh won't somebody think of the children
