Kearney: Mortimer will be in halves

Despite a disappointing 2010 that saw him end the year as interchange hooker, Daniel Mortimer will be bouyed by comments from coach Stephen Kearney that he'll definitely be one Parramatta's halves next year.

"That's a work in progress to see who the guys around him are and how they suit," Kearney was quoted as saying by The Australian today. "He'll be a six or a seven, there's no doubt about that."

  • That's a work in progress...........should be.....Mortimer is a work in progress

    And that's an understatement !!!

Maybe Kearney is just feeding the press what they want to hear, so that they don't start attacking Parra and Morts in the off-season

That's about the only logical thing I can take from that statement - especially from a coach that has hardly attended a single training session with the team - how could Kearney possibly evaluate his roster and declare Morts a starter so prematurely after he struggled so much in 2010 ???

..........or he'll be 6 or 7 but in what grade ?
  • Phil , morts will be ok - the young fella has copped so much crap in 2010 . He will deliver the goods .

My guess would be morts to dummy half , robson or murray to half and possible hayne to 5/8 moving burt, reddy or even humble to fullback .

Whatever we do i feel we have alot more depth in the team and pretty balanced over the park
  • I have faith in Kearney and I believe he knows what he's doing. Morts oils be great 6, that was always his position and I think he'll do great next year with possibly jt, murray, robson at half.
  • Morts at 6, any half signing at 7, Mitchell 9, mk or robson off the bench.. That's how I think we will start the season If we sign a half!!
  • Great to hear.
  • gag.
  • Maybe SK will bring some experience from the Storm on how to prevent his half or 5/8 making 30 tackles a game which young Morts was subject to in 2010

Brett FInch is a shit defender yet seemed to often have cover from backrowers etc

    Heres hoping
  • We don't need a second hooker on the bench. We have two ball playing forwards in horo and matua.
