Kaysa Pritchard

With Kaysa out indefinately in an attempt to sort himself but taking up one of the 30 spots, can't Parra "retire" him for this season in order for him not to take up cap money? If I'm not mistaken he can be payed outside the cap as we have done for others?

This would open up a spot to maybe sign another forward which where short on.

From my understanding we were going to sign McIllrick despite Will Smith breaking his arm which makes him ever much more valuable now.

Rhys Martin's name who was thrown around the media for Parra would be handy for a 1 year contract.

  • Yeah i think you can have a percentage of a players salary back on the cap if it happens before rd 1.

    Anybody aware of that figure?

    • He would not be on a big contract and would have been paid since November so there would not be a lot of money freed up.

    • Not sure Snake but they did introduce salary cap relief for players injured during rep games as long as it wasn't a pre-existing condition.  The clubs were also able to sign a 31st player to the roster to replace the injured player on a like-for-like basis, and the imjured player must be ruled out for rest of the season.

Obviously not relevant for Kaysa but there is mechanism avialable to sign a 31st player.  We can ask.

  • The talk of Rhys Martin coming to the Eels was a swap deal with Bevan French as I understand. He is a good goal kicker but would struggle to make the 17 as an edge forward. Maybe as a middle.

    • Or, we can do the old cronulla sharks trick and transfer  KP to a Wentworthville contract like they just did with Segeyaro even though they were supposed to shed the last player they signed as part of their so called salary cap punishment

      • Something smells in what is going on at Cronulla over their salary cap cheating. It was reported that they had to lose $350,000. On top of that they would have to replace whoever was cut to make up the 30. So instead of dropping about $450,000 in players they merely left Segyaro off their list.

      • Exactly what I was thinking!

    • Where are you hearing that from because that’s an excellent idea. Rhyse will play lock with Moeroa to the bench

    • We wanted to swap French for Martin correct yes. It was happening and if it did French would be playing for the Bulldogs on Sunday & Martin with us.

But the deal is off for now unfortunately, Will Smith’s injury killed that chance because the club doesn’t have a back up for Gutho if we let French leave whilst Smith is out.

  • Not sure if this is correct, but someone on another site stated that Kaysa ammounced his retirement last Saturday.
